LAST GAME: The B-Mets countered every one of the Reading Phillies’ run-scoring innings with one of their own in a 7-4 vic-tory in the series rubber match on Sunday night at NYSEG Sta-dium. After B-Mets starter Jeurys Familia allowed two runs on five hits in the first inning, the B-Mets answered quickly with three runs in the bottom of the frame on an RBI fielder’s choice from Mike Fisher and a two-run single by Dusty Ryan. The R-Phils tied the game on a solo home run by Chris Lubanski in the fourth, but the B-Mets took the lead for good with another three-run inning. An RBI single from Jordany Valdespin broke the tie and Juan Lagares’ two-run single added insurance. Erik Turgeon threw a scoreless fifth and gave way to Jack Egbert who allowed one run over three innings to earn his first win as a B-Met. Josh Stinson tossed a scoreless ninth for his second save.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Collin McHugh makes his 12th start of the year with Binghamton and second against the Thunder. McHugh most recently appeared out of the bullpen, firing three shutout innings against the Reading Phillies to earn his second save on August 5. McHugh won his last start against the Harrisburg Senators on July 31. The righty-hander has gone at least five innings and allowed two runs or fewer in each of his last four starts. McHugh has one save and a 3.00 ERA in two appearances (one start) against the Thunder.
RHP Graham Stoneburner will make his sixth start with the Thunder and first against the B-Mets. The Virginia native made three starts with Trenton before heading to the DL with a stiff neck in mid-April. He returned to action in late June and made four appearances with the GCL Yankees (R) before appearing with the Tampa Yankees (Hi-A) in mid-July. Stoneburner re-turned to the Thunder on 7/29. He has gone at least six innings and allowed two runs or fewer in his two starts since returning. The righty was selected by the Yankees in the 14th round of the 2009 draft out of Clemson University.
A LENGTHY WAIT: On Sunday, B-Mets reliever Jack Egbert earned his first win in more than two years. The righty’s previ-ous victory came on 6/27/09 against the Buffalo Bisons when he was a member of the Charlotte Knights (CWS: AAA). Egbert missed all of 2010 after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
STAYING HOT: Juan Lagares went 3-for-4 on Sunday with three RBI, his first multi-RBI game as a B-Met. Since joining the B-Mets from St. Lucie (Hi-A) on 7/23, Lagares has made 13 starts and collected two hits or more seven times. His .414 batting average (24-58) since 7/23 is the second-best mark in the league over that time, trailing only Jamie Johnson of the Erie SeaWolves who has hit .418 (23-55).
