I May Be Wrong, But…

1. Was it really necessary for Mike Pelfrey to piss off every Mets fans in the country? Hasn’t he sucked enough this year on his own? Pelf said the team really didn’t deserve making the playoffs this year and it doesn’t find it surprising that the fans probably don’t want him back. Really?

2. Josh Satin seems to have become a sure September call up. He’s continuing his hot hitting which seems to have started when he was in grade school. I think we’ll see a lot of him and Justin Turner splitting September time on second while Ruben Tejada gets the lion share of shortstop.

3. While I’m on second base, in my day we just wanted someone to hit .260, make less than ten errors a year, bat eighth, and take the garbage out on the way home. Ron Hunt was about our speed, Jeff Kent was far more than we expected, and Fonzie was the best to come along over the 50 years of Met-ball. Based on my formula, Turner should be given the position in 2012.

4. Has any team ever been thrilled with the last year of a multi-year deal with an aging superstar? You know the most money is in the last year. Why do teams sign players to four, five, even six year deals when they know it’s going to come back and bite them in their corporate ass?

5. I wouldn’t change the dimensions of CitiField at all. Leave the walls alone and don’t move them in either. This is one of the true pitchers park in the league now and once Matt Harvey, Zack Wheeler, Jeurys Familia, and Jenrry Mejia arrive, they will dominate here. In addition, stock the team with gap hitters that are also known for their defensive skills (example: Matt den Dekker, Cory Vaughn). Screw the home runs and live with 13 hits a game.

6. There seems to be too much dialogue on what goes on around third base when the Mets are up. No disrespect for Chip Hale, but the team needs better here. Promote Tim Teufel next year to third base coach. Hell. He’s coached and managed most of these players when they were in the minors.

7. You just gotta promote Val Pascucci come September. He hit his 18th home run tonight and he’s busted his ass since the last time he played pro in 2005. September promotions are all about rewarding people and Val deserves to be this year’s Pedro Feliciano.

8. Terry Collins made the right decision in pulling Mike Pelfrey last night. If Mike has any problem with it… talk to the press.
