SP Matt Harvey –
Rich Coutinho: Last year, the stuff was impressive but his
delivery looked choppy to me. This year, he delivers the ball in a much
smoother fashion and his footwork on the mound is light years ahead of what I
saw last year.
David Lennon - Collins on Harvey's live BP session, when
he tied up Ike with a chest high FB. "You can see he has edge to
him."
Michael Baron - Matt Harvey is EXTREMELY
impressive
Ike Davis - “His
mechanics are real smooth. I’d like to see him when he’s in a game, throwing 97
[mph] like he can. With that movement it would be pretty nasty.”
SP Jeurys Familia –
Andy Martino: Familia’s ultimate role is unclear, although
when he and Harvey talk, they imagine him as a dominant reliever."We
always laugh about it," says Harvey. "He says, 'I'll close your
games!' "
SP Jenrry Mejia –
Andy Martino@SurfingTheMets - Mejia with a big smile day
the after first post-TJ mound session. "I feel great."
Michael Baron: There’s no question Mejia has the stuff to be
dominating in any role – it’s a matter of his ability to harness that stuff,
and further refine the command of his secondary pitches once he recovers.
OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis –
Toby Hyde: At 6’3”, 215 lbs, Nieuwenhuis is on the
large side for a center fielder, but clearly staying in center maximizes his
value. Early in his career, he should be able to handle the position, as he
covers a surprising abount of ground for his size. As he ages, a corner could
become a more appealing option. A high school pitcher, Nieuwenhuis has more
than enough arm for right, where he could be an above average defender.
Terry Collins: “There’s no doubt this is an important spring
for him because of the situation we’re looking at, with us in desperate need of
guys who can play outfield. We’re going to give him a lot of playing time. He’s
going to get plenty of chances to prove himself.”
OF Matt den Dekker –
Michael Baron - Matt Harvey says the
most impressive player he's played with so far is Matt Den Dekker
OF
Cesar Puello –
Toby Hyde: At the
plate, Puello must still become much more patient. After walking in 7.1% of his plate
appearances in 2010 with Savannah, his walk rate dropped to 3.7% in 2011 with
St. Lucie. His on-base percentage was
supported by 20 hit-by-pitches. That’s a
repeatable skill – he was plunked 22 times in 2010.
