According to "The Mike and Ike Show" on 94WIP, the Phillies will sign free agent outfielder Marlon Byrd.
No details on the structure of the contract and the signing hasn't been confirmed by other beat writers or the team. In other words, take it will a grain of salt for now. Byrd, 36, is coming off a resurgent season in which he hit .291/.336/.511 with 24 home runs and 88 RBI in 147 games between the Mets and Pirates.

Wow....if this is true then I'm sure the Phillies will have overpaid to get Byrd to sign this early.
Just confirmed by Ken Rosenthal via twitter
Just confirmed by Ken Rosenthal via twitter. Its a 2 year deal.
Probably did.
I remember that the Phillies was his first team... full circle
Well, I'm glad they didn't do a Mets reunion as I can't see him replicating his success for the next few years and at his age he's not how you build for the future. Good luck to him -- he seems like a good guy. There are a probably a lot of pissed-off people in Pittsburgh right now.
Maybe they had a Marlon Byrd bobblehead giveaway scheduled for today
So in the end the Pirates paid 2 top 15 organizational prospects for 0.7 added WAR of Marlon Byrd.....
Deals like those make Alderson look like the best GM in all of baseball.
What makes it even better is that i'm sure he had five offers before the deadline that were not as good....but he chose to wait it out and got the deal he wanted
2-yrs, $16 mil
2 - yrs, $16 mil ist ridiculous!!
Marlon Byrd will play as a 37year old next year...and hey he is not Carlos Beltran!! What Iam mean is that I strongly belive that 2013 was one year wonder! Maybe he will hit .250 with 15HR and 50RBI next year but in my eyes this is way overpaid!!
The good thing of this signing!? The Phillis have another old man playing for them and burden their payroll!
Its actually right in line with what MLB Trade Rumors was predicting. But I agree that 2013 was just a surprise year and his avg will fall back to the .260 range.
I wonder what this means for Johnathan Mayberry or Darin Ruf. Both are bench players now with Bryd starting in RF alongside Ben Revere and Dom Brown.
As I just wrote in tomorrow morning's report, it's interesting that the Phillies chose not to throw around one liners and just kept their mouth shut and got a deal done no one was expecting out of either party. Hats off to them.
Agreed but repeating his 2013 performance is going to be tough. Especially in Citizens Bank Park. While his power numbers may hold, there is less grass out there so fewer batted balls are going to fall in for hits.
a .260 AVG, 15 HR, 65 RBI performance isn't outside the realm of possibility

Steamer predicts a .256 AVg, 12 HR, 51 RBI so I'm not sure he's worth $8MM
