ADEINY!!!
I know baseball has been looking for tools and techniques to shorten games.
The Mets won't be so fortunate, though, if PA announcers have to say "AH-DEI-NEE HECH-A-VA-RRI-A" several times a game! A name like that takes TIME to pronounce, bro', unless you are one of those speed talkers on those full disclosure commercials!
This young man (turning 30 on tax filing deadline day this season) is not your average minor league signing.
Ken Davidoff tweeted that "If Adeiny Hechavarria makes the Mets, he'll earn a $3-million salary, with $1-million bonuses each for 100 days and then 150 days on the active roster."
Let's call the new fella "H Man" to save time - if H Man does make the Mets and remains with them, it could cost them a cool $5 million smackers for 2019. A real big chunk o' cabbage. But he has been paid $21 million over 7 seasons so far, so he likes to get paid for his troubles (so do I).
To me, though, it seems there are cheaper reserve infielder alternatives, and this one would only be undertaken by the Mets if Amed Rosario got hurt before opening day, and the Mets wanted a fella who can really play SS.
Not much bat (.254/.290/.345 lifetime), but clearly better than Jose Reyes and his .189 and shaky D last season.
H Man made just 8 shortstop errors in over 170 games the past 2 seasons! He attributes that to the vacuum attachment in his glove, equipped with artificial intelligence and special magnets.

In a highly crowded infield, H Man will have to compete hard, but his 3,000 MLB plate appearances and that Hoover Vac give him credibility that some others are lacking.
IFs like Luis Guillorme, Gavin Cecchini, David Thompson, and even TJ Rivera and Dilson Herrera must inwardly feel a lot further away than they would like to be from the base paths of Flushing.
But Brodie VW has been stocking up big time, folks.
It will be quite the scuffle to be on that 25 man roster as an infielder come Opening Day.
Be prepared for some LONG games.
"AH-DEI-NEE HECH-A-VA-RRI-A" might just be in town.

I always liked 'Ade'.
He is the perfct defense first infielder that hits .250
A good team can use a guy like that
To a certain extent, this is an admission by the Mets that Luis is simply not up to being a ML utility man. His glove was not as expected, but the truth is he cannot hit big league pitching.

I've said Luis had to prove he was Ruben Tejada's equal first...he has not.
Wow, I thought we set the bar a LITTLE higher than that for major league players considering the Sandwich still hasn't been able to land a major league gig despite TC's love affair with him being in the lineup every day.
Luis does not have Tejada's .251 lifetime and 2400 MLB plate appearances.
Somehow Ruben was far better than Dan Muno and a bunch of other Mets utility IFs. He should have been even better, too, after starting his career well. He got old and fat in his mid 20s, I guess.
He has a better avg than Frazier
