Lugo toss just 4 pitches in rehab outing
JUPITER, Fla. (May 18, 2021) – Six St. Lucie Mets pitchers combined for a 4-0 shutout win over the Palm Beach Cardinals on Tuesday at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
Seth Lugo (elbow) started the game on rehab assignment. He only needed four pitches to navigate a perfect first inning. Lugo got a ground out on the first pitch to begin the game, then a fly out on his second pitch. His fourth pitch was grounded to Shervyen Newton, who made a throwing error, but LJ Jones took too wide of a turn around first base and was caught in a rundown to end the inning.
Franklin Parra followed with two scoreless innings.
Hunter Parsons inherited a bases loaded no-out situation in the fourth inning but got a double play comebacker and a strikeout to keep the Mets in the lead. Parsons tossed three hitless innings to earn the win.
Liam McCall, Willy Taveras and Reyson Santos all pitched a scoreless and hitless inning to finish out the game.
The Mets scored the only run they needed in the first inning on a RBI single by Francisco Alvarez that plated Tanner Murphy.
Jimmy Titus scored on a throwing error in the second inning to make it 2-0. Jaylen Palmer lifted a sac fly in the third inning to score Alvarez for 3-0 lead.
Zach Ashford finished the scoring with a RBI single into right field to bring home Newton.
Murphy reached base four times – three walks and an infield single.
The Mets (9-4) and Cardinals (5-8) will meet again Wednesday at noon at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Noah Syndergaard will make the start for St. Lucie on MLB rehab assignment.
