Today
in Mets History Per
Ultimatemets.com:
Born on this date:
- Rick Cerone (1954)
- Turk Wendell (1967)
- Angel Manzanarez (1997)
Transactions:
New York Mets traded Ken
Henderson to the Cincinnati Reds
for Dale Murray on May 19, 1978.
New York Mets signed free agent Abraham
Nunez on May 19, 2008.
1993 With the team
record mired at 13-25, Jeff Torborg is replaced by Dallas Green as the Mets skipper.
The 1990 American League Manager of the Year with the White Sox posted an
85-115 record (.425) during his brief stint with New York.
2010 Mets center
fielder Angel Pagan initiates the tenth triple play in franchise history when
he snags Nationals' Cristian Guzman's sinking liner with first and second base
occupied. After making a catch that totally surprises baserunners, the
outfielder overthrows the infield, but catcher Henry Blanco takes the errant
toss and throws the ball to Jose Reyes at second base to double off Livan
Hernandez, who relays the ball to first baseman Ike Davis to triple up Nyjer
Morgan, making it the first 9-2-6-3 triple killing in major league history.
2006: In interleague play, David Wright wins the first Subway Series game of the
year between the two New York City teams when he hits a two-out RBI single
off Mariano Rivera in the bottom of the 9th inning to
give the Mets a 7 - 6 victory over the Yankees. You Tube Link.
2012 - Brandon Morrow pitches a three-hit shutout for the Blue Jays, who beat the Mets, 2 - 0. Morrow is now 5-2 with a pair of shutouts and a 2.63 ERA after signing a long-term contract in the off-season.
Mack’s Blast From The Past: Top 12 OF in 2014 MLB Draft - revised 5-19-14 . 2. Michael Conforto – Oregon State. “Conforto has an elite arm in left field, and offensively, he led the Beavers last season with big-time power despite hitting in a home ballpark that typically isn’t conducive to amazing power numbers. Conforto has a stocky/compact frame and is expected to have a productive spring as the nation’s No. 17 overall prospect.”

Too bad the Joe Genord HR was not actually shown, but he sure was pumped - like it.
Seth Lugo a 4 pitch inning in his rehab. Four.
Another non-Mets no hitter??? We need one soon.
Tommy Hunter gets a base hit while Khalil Lee strikes out his first 5 times up? The earth's axis has clearly shifted.
Tomas Nido for President. Maybe he should be the Mets' # 1 catcher? Just a thought?
Cameron Maybin was hitting terribly in AAA. He'll fit right in.
Seeing Pillar in the dugout made me PROUD to be a Mets fan. I sure am a Pillar fan now. Big time.
Nido needs to play more - that is for sure. He hits when he plays regularly and I think McCann will be better not playing everyday. Go back again to what you said Tom a month or so before season started and the Mets should use them closer to a 50/50 basis.
According to Jacob Nesnick - Genord HR was 107 MPH off the bat. Liked Genord the first time I saw him play in 2019. Raw power off the bat.
I need to spend more time watching what Genord does.
Most impressive thing that Genord did in 2019 was shorten his stroke in 2 strike - men on base situations to drive in runs on outs. Granted, that was what Fonzie and hitting coach Delmyn Young preached to him. I am very interested to see what he does in these situations going forward. BTW, he also caught in Summer Wood Bat leagues up here in Upstate NY and in College. When the Cyclones would play in Albany, fans from his old Summer League days would show up and cheer him.
