Awful - awful happens every summer for the bots from Queens, don't it, though?

The hitters are Pete - and Pathetic.

Stroman has been fine - just don't look at his highly deceptive W/L record.

Send in the Clowns - there ought to be clowns.

One thing that needs to happen here, and elsewhere, is the people who were saying this was a 95+ win team need to step back and reflect on why they were so wrong.

I mean, okay, obviously, thinking that certain players were better than they actually are.

I had them in the upper 80s, 87 to be exact, which was relatively low. Just felt that the staff was too strong, and the quality of the team too solid, for them to falter much below that.

Injuries were obviously part of it. Nothing from Carrasco. But when healthy, these guys -- Smith, Conforto, McNeil -- have been extremely disappointing.

The Mets still have a 15-game stretch against Marlins & Nationals coming up. Need to salvage what they can on the Coast -- try to stay close to .500 -- and then go on a run to climb back over. Possible? Probable? Who knows.

It's just interesting when the dedicated fanbase turns out to be so wrong.

Rose-colored glasses effect?

Injuries were such a huge part of this demise. If they had just league average in injuries, whatever that might be, they'd be several games in front.

I just can never recall any season with so much time missed by key players. deGrom, Thor, Carrasco, Lindor, Conforto, McNeil, Davis, Nimmo, and all of the # 5 pitchers who got seriously injured. A freak season.

It is a game of momentum. Cascades of njuries have robbed them of any momentum.

Some site tracks it - 20 guys injured during the year - they included Cano, so make it 19. Most have been very lengthy.
