Press Release: Ponies Pitching Powers Friday Night Victory Over Yard Goats


BINGHAMTON, NY – The Rumble Ponies (38-48) got strong pitching from starter Cole Gordon in a 4-1 win to even the series with the Yard Goats (29-58) (Box Score).

Jake Mangum led-off the bottom of the first with a single and advanced to third on a wild pitch from Yard Goats starter Ian Clarkin and a passed ball that led to a Brett Baty RBI single driving Mangum in to give the Ponies a 1-0 lead.

In the third inning, Edgardo Fermin started things off with a leadoff double. Mangum followed with a single and got to second on an error. The next batter, Luis Carpio, drilled an RBI single to make it 2-0 Binghamton. The Ponies would plate another run in the inning on a double play to extend their lead to 3-0.

The Ponies offense continued to add on in the fourth inning with a two-out RBI single from Quinn Brodey to score Yoel Romero and put the Ponies on top 4-0.

The Yard Goats got on the board in the seventh inning on a leadoff solo home-run from Willie Abreu. Hartford brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning before Colin Holderman struck out Yard Goats DH Max George to earn his second save of the season.

Gordon earned the win pitching five scoreless innings allowing only one hit and two walks while striking out ten. Clarkin took the loss going four innings allowing three earned runs.

The two teams continue their series on Saturday night with first pitch at 6:35 PM.

POSTGAME NOTES: Cole Gordon has pitched 17 straight scoreless innings allowing only 2 hits with 28 strikeouts in his last 3 starts...Jake Mangum went 2-4 with 2 runs scored to extend his on base streak to 16 straight games
