Picture of a NY team that could really hit and score
Tylor Megill finally had THAT ROOKIE GAME in start # 12.
They all do, eventually.
It took him 12 starts. He finally got there.
Again, though, as I pointed out the other day, the Mets did nothing with the bats while he was in the game.
Nothing this time all night for that matter.
Shut out by a SFG guy with a bad ERA.
First hit for the Mets in the first 3 innings?
Megill’s double, naturally. My Mom used to say, "you want something done RIGHT? Do it yourself."
He is a pitcher, remember, who, due to minor league rules, almost never got to hit down there.
So far, he is 4 for 17 (2 doubles, 2 singles), a walk and 2 sac bunts.
After Alonso, pretty much no Met is hitting that well!
If they are going to lose, please do so like mad. It will do two things:
1) better draft slots = better future talent.
2) take off the rose colored glasses about the offensive players they have. And, glasses off, shake things up mightily this off season. Because they have been woeful. For instance, the pitch that John From Albany posted on Wednesday AM of a Baez swing and miss? I swung an imaginary bat in my living room in Suffolk County and got closer to it.
I have an idea...Jose Peroza and Ronny Mauricio are killing it in Brooklyn. Bring them up now. The Mets' hitters, you see, are a bit sore and fatigued. Give them the next seven months off to rest - and a ticket out of town.
It is hard for me to be a fan when the team badly needs a statement win - but puts up a blow out loss instead.

Off the top of my head, McGill just reached 100-IP.
The most he has ever pitched is like 60.
The Mets are killing his stat line.
Shut him down
Tom it was much more a statement LOSS with an exclamation point and it's interesting but the Giants had no problem clearing the fences either but for us I'm with you BRING THE FENCES IN. As far as Peroza and Maurcio I'm with you also because something has to be done but will they start their clocks now and it's the "same old same old" as far as the Yanks and Braves surging and were in free fall.
Gary, Khalil Lee could be a call up - he's done well in AAA getting on base and some recent power. The problem is, the roster expansion Sept 1 is small now, and they have Thor, Martinez and a few others currently rehabbing and due back, so that (and only being in Brooklyn) is why we won't see Mauricio and Peroza now.
Mack - that might make sense. Megill looked flat last nite.
I know that idea of moving the fences in has been discussed at length here, but the fences don't seem to hinder other teams from hitting dingers. Maybe it's not the fences but our players
I think is both. It has been terrible hitting at home for years, runs-wise. Something is wrong…many hitters have come and gone.
This team lacks a crucial ingredient that successful teams usually have in spades and that is HEART!
What a collection of listless, heartless, dare I say SOFT players we have!
I guess teams reflect their manager's personality, at times and in this case it is spot on. Rojas is a nice guy, but
seems to lack any sort of fire or urgency, despite the proverbial house being on fire for quite some time now.
It was OK (in most people's eyes) a few months ago when the team was in first place (despite having a record worse then all of the the other division leaders AND all of the wild card teams). Now, it is simply a bad look and it is embarrassing to watch. If you are going to lose, at least act like you care and go down fighting!
In reality, this team has been mediocre all year.......the only recent difference is that the Braves woke up and started playing decent baseball.
I hope there are lots of changes in the offseason, because they are sorely needed.......start at the top and work your way down. I can't imagine that our new owner is too pleased with the effort and the results.
I am not a huge Terry Collins fan, but I loved it a few years back when he made that fiery speech to the media that if the players didn't want to play hard, then there were plenty of guys in the minors that do,and he'd get them up there ASAP. That's what's missing in Rojas. Light a fire underneath these guys butts and if they don't perform, get someone who will. i'm sure Vientos and Baty et. al. would love the chance to show what they got.
You're right on the mark, Mike, NO URGENCY!!!
Remember Sam Kinison? He would have been a wake up manager. They take failure too easily. What I loved about Keith. He wouldn’t stand it.
Of course, I mean the hitters.
