Mack - 2022 MLB Draft Scouting Report - SS - Cole Young

Cole Young

SS      6-0     180        N. Allegheny HS (PA)

HS stats - 88 games, .443-8-76 with a 1.273 OPS

Mack's spin -

Young is soring up the early charts. As you can see, Prospect Live now has him as the 8th overall pick in the draft.

Young is a bat first infielder who also is projected to stick at short. He also is projected to develop future pop.

For me, he is currently the 4th SS on my board and a late first round pick.

And... the only way this kid sees the Duke home field is if he flies over it and waves.

9-9-21 - Prospects Live - 2022 MLB DRAFT - TOP 150 PROSPECTS -

8. Cole Young

Shortstop, North Allegheny HS

One of the top middle infielders in the 2022 class. Pretty complete profile. Strong defensively up the middle with good footwork and an accurate arm with the innate feel for timing. Tends to peppers ball into gaps both pull-side and opposite field, but Young has a well-leveraged body with big exit velos. He can ambush fastballs and lift when he wants. Very polished profile that projects to stick at shortstop and hit for average and some pop.

Give me three players you hope will still be on the board on Day 1 when the Giants pick near the end of the draft?

Cole Young, SS, North Allegheny (PA)- I love the swing. He can really manipulate the bat and gets good wood on the ball. Plate discipline is also a major strength and he's had some impressive at-bats this summer. Not much power yet but I think that's going to come in time.

9-1-21 - MLB - Top high school prospects for '22 Draft

 11. Cole Young, SS, North Allegheny HS (Pa.)

College commitment: Duke

While Young doesn’t have any wow tools, he’s the kind of player who will grow on you the more you watch him. He has a very advanced bat from the left side, though he is definitely hit over power. He showed this summer that it looks like he can stay at shortstop, and he brings good energy and plus instincts to the table.

7-13-21 - bpj - prep players to know -

Cole Young, SS, North Allegheny (Pa.) HS

The 6-foot, 180-pound shortstop is a left-handed hitter with an easy swing that allows him to drive the ball to the gaps. Defensively, Young has solid footwork and athleticism to handle shortstop. He also has plenty of arm strength to make all the plays at shortstop.

4-27-21 - PG

Cole Young, SS (Pa.)

6-0/180, L/R

Commitment: Duke University

PG Events: 24 events

Key Stats: 88 games, .443-8-76 with a 1.273 OPS

Short Story: There is an argument that Young has the highest baseball IQ and potentially is the best in-game performer on the circuit. His subtle adjustments defensively based on the hit and pitch call is insane. It goes hand-in-hand with his ability to make a decision on offense to go big or shorten and spray based on the count or situation of the game.

Big Moment: Another PG Select Festival alumnus, Young hit .429 with two doubles, a triple, and a homer at the 16U PG World Series. Those numbers are against the best teams/arms in the country with no breaks in competition.

Bold Prediction: The steady Young shows that his hit tool, IQ, and overall feel separate himself from the jumbled pack.

1-8-21 - Prospects Live

26. Cole Young - SS

Bio:

Height: 6-1

Weight: 170 lbs

Hits/Throws: L-R

Hometown: Wexford, Pennsylvania

School: North Allegheny (PA)

One of the top middle infielders in the 2022 class. Pretty complete profile. Strong defensively up the middle with good footwork and an accurate arm. Peppers balls into gaps both pull-side and opposite field. Can ambush fastballs and lift when he's anticipating them. Good shot at sticking at shortstop.

11-27-20 - PG -

Young is simply one of those prospects who it would be almost shocking to expect him to do anything else but hit well at the highest levels of the game.  He’s a career .444-8-76 hitter in 87 total PG tournament games over the last four years and has a proven ability to both turn on balls with power and work middle away with maturity.

Cole Young sounds better than Gavin Cecchini did,
