I think I'm liking the idea of Starling Marte in CF, Nimmo in left.
Nimmo, McNeil, Khalil Lee, Pillar and a thunderous new short term bat. I have no suggestions on whom that might be.
As noted recently by me, Lee has a .450 OBP in AAA. His game seems similar to Nimmo's, and he'd be a better OF.
Pillar would be greatly helped by shortened home fences.
(Conforto on QO would be OK, anything longer, no).
Mangum a possible mid-2022 call up.
Alex Ramirez and Carlos Rincon in 2023 perhaps. Rincon must continue to improve to get to the Mets. Ramirez by mid-2023 may be ready to "Acuna" us.
Ernest, if Marte can be gotten reasonably, I am all for that.
My vote for left is Nimmo.

Since we have openings in outfield how about trying Vientos or Cortes, Lee, Mangum. McNeil can play LF. I think he is a better fielder than Dom. Only concern I have is him hurting himself running into walls.. Davis was a disaster in OF. We need better hitters in the lineup. It has been several years the sports writers have written how bad the Mets are with RISP. We need to obtain in free agency or through prospects hitters who can do a better job in these situations.
The open thread has been an interesting discussion, and has led to many opinions on “who’s the best” for each one. However, the front office needs to optimize whole team makeup, and that can change thinking on how you fill some of the positions. On this current team, LF has been a “fill” position and that may continue to be the case.
Consider the scenario where the Mets sign Baez to a 5-year deal, Conforto accepts a QO, and Cano sets up at 3B. Now you have some good power in the lineup (Alonso, Baez, Conforto, Lindor, Cano). You will need to fill the rest of the positions with folks that can get on base in front of that power. Nimmo has shown his ability to get on base and work a count. McNeil is in an off year, but has done the same throughout his career. In this scenario, the infield is full, so McNeil has to play left with Nimmo in CF.
Now consider the scenario where the Mets whiff on Baez and Conforto but are smart enough not to overpay for someone coming off a career year (e.g. Semien). Now there is much less power in the lineup, so unless you can get a big power guy in RF on the free agent market, you will need to put McNeil and Cano in the infield, slide Nimmo to left, and get a stronger bat for CF (e.g. Marte from prior comments).
So if I’m the front office, LF gets filled later in the process.
Paul I agree that LF is the filler spot but you claim that Semien is a over pay?
he had the best year of his career in a walk year but he also was a top 5 MVP candidate in 2019. his 2020 was poor but would it have been had that not been a 60 game season but a 162?
Semien is my guy, i dont expect him to get the money correa, seager, and perhaps story recieve based on age.
I would run to get Semien (and do anything to get rid of Lindor and Baez) but its just my opinion
This is a spot for a less expensive import in a trade. I wouldn't mind if Dom and/or JD got traded. Nimmo could move to right to replace Conforto. Pillar is bench. McNeil is a jack of all trades.
I wouldn't mind Corey Dickerson, who probably had a down year due to injury, but can play good D, and has hit in the past.

As much as I am and always have been a fan of Dom Smith, I believe the 2022 left fielder should be Brandon Nimmo. I would like to see a little bit more extra base power from him, but his OBP is elite. Keep him as the leadoff hitter and give him left field for keeps.
