Tom Brennan - Top 20 Mets Prospects: 11 thru 20

All The Young Dudes in Brennan's 11 thru 20

In the Cohen Universe, where rushing meteors are shaped like dollar signs, it helps to be a top 10 prospect, but prospects ranked 11 thru 20 are in a sweet spot as well, as a jumping off point to higher heights.

BABY, IT'S TOP 10 OR BUST!!  Anyway...

Who are Brennan's #’s 11 through 20, as he sees it?

The answer is obvious…whoever he darned well decides they should be.

With that pompous and slightly Darwinian intro, let’s begin:

11 thru 20 talent is a drop off from the Top 10, but they’re still good.

#11 Jose Butto - the righty will have some MLB success, beginning in 2023 out of the Mets’ bullpen. A solid, if not spectacular, career in the minors so far.  Maybe, though, the next Dillon Gee?

#12 Matt Allan - because he only has 10 innings in 2019 and none since, the graduate from the TJS School of Hard Knocks will finally be throwing in anger in 2023, and given how pitchers are in high demand throughout each season, who knows if he’ll make a late season Mets cameo.  Much more likely, the righty debuts in late 2024 or in 2025.

Had there been no COVID lockdown and no TJS surgeries, I bet he'd have made his debut in 2022. But time to double and make up for lost time.

#13 Mike Vasil - a fine 2022 pitching performance from the righty, including in Arizona in the fall; he might well deserve to be in the top 10.  But let's wait until this time next year for that.

BMDO - USE ONLY AS DIRECTED

#14 Bryce Montes de Oca - Mack is relieved I did not list Bryce as my # 1 prospect....but can't say I wasn't tempted.  He is wild, that's true, but the fireballer will prove in 2023 that my faith in the behemoth is well-founded.

After all, as I have stated several times, his resume includes: 102 MPH; 47 Ks in his last 24 AAA innings; just 1 HR in 89 pro innings; 17 of 20 pro saves; and zero errors.  Focus on his negative (wildness) if you will, but I will saunter down the Positive Parkway, with a speed limit of 102.

#15 Wyatt Young - on base 190+ times in AA and AAA in his very first full pro season…very solid defensively at multiple IF positions - he is in my top 15, if no one else’s.  Small statures scare away evaluators who like large ballplayers.  But Young is a riser.

#16 Joel Diaz - the righty is highly favored, but has yet to dazzle. Maybe in 2023 the flower will bloom.  Taking a flier on him at #16.

#17 Nick Morabito - drafted in 2022 for his bat, so we have broken out the popcorn so we can watch some 2023 slugging. 75th overall pick. $1 million bonus.  May he fly like the Crow and arrive in the Nick of time.

#18 Jacob Reimer - ditto on the bat. Besides, if you let one Jacob walk away, you need another.  Drafted out of high school.  119th overall, $775K signing bonus.

#19 Eric Orze - he will pitch in relief for the Mets in 2023, and will strike out lots of fellas. 136 Ks in 100 pro innings, 64 in 47 AAA innings. "SIT BACK DOWN, BUBBA. BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME."

#20 Junior Tilien - 3 homers in a game at age 19?  Solid overall 2022 season. Lacks speed, defense must improve - but he was 19. That 3 HR game alone gets him on my top 20 list.  Now it's time to climb the list.

So, that’s my abbreviated list. Stopping at 20.

After all, it's a top-heavy prospect franchise.

Everyone else not on it? Keep plugging away.

You want to be in the top 10.

Work harder, make it happen.

See ya in Queens. We'll leave the light on for ya.
