Mack's Open Thread for Hot Stove Season

The regular season is done (and so are the Mets & Yanks), so it is officially "Hot Stove" season in New York.  This is our daily open thread to discuss the many possibilities in the Mets' first off-season headed by a President Of Baseball Operations (POBO).  There are many intriguing story lines and rumors already spinning around in the media, so this is your opportunity to weigh in with your thoughts.

Today's topic: Who is the top non-international free agent that the Mets should target signing in the off-season?

SP JORDAN MONTGOMERY

Montgomery good choice. Agreed. My brother would like the Mets to go after Corbin Burnes, but he is not a free agent until 2025.

I don't trust the starters in the pipeline

They all look like potential back end starters

Yamamoto and Montgomery would solidify the future of the rotation

They need a big bat behind Alonso in the lineup.
I previously liked JD Martinez the past couple of years
but now he is getting a little long in the tooth for a
team trying to get younger.
Please don't bring up that ugly old troll Justin Turner either.
Who else? Bellinger? (also old)

Like Mack’s plan…Yama and Monty

Hitters? Let’s get Ohtani, too…if not, see how Mark, Brett and Ronny do, now that they accumulated at bats. Maybe they’ll hit like Kelenic 2023 before he got hurt.

If they fail, Gilbert and Acuna step in mid-2024. Williams late 2024.

Maybe Baby Mets 2 will be better than Baby Mets 1,

We've already got a guy who batted behind Pete in September and hit 30 HRs this year.

Isn't that a "big bat"?

If we sign hitters, how will we find out what the "babies" you listed can do?

I'd rather spend on pitching this year and see what we've already got.

I 2nd that Mack. Montgomery would be great on this staff.

How about Conforto? He could bat behind Alonso.

Conforto seems in decline. I would pass on a reunion.

I saw Lindor mostly hit in front of Alonso.
I agree with SNY’s Dani Wexelman
“Number one, they need a designated hitter that can hit. The Mets had the third-worst average among the entire league when it came to the DH. You to have more than just Pete Alonso on your team, you need another guy who can slug. In fact, you need a couple more guys who can slug. They were missing that.”
