What Was a your Recollection of the Mets’ Longest HR Ever?
Rusty Staub weighed in, some years ago….
The writer noted that there was the ball Kingman hit against Catfish Hunter over the center-field wall at Fort Lauderdale Stadium in 1975. Wind-aided as it was, it left the playing field in a millisecond, according to eyewitness Rusty Staub:
“It had to go 680 feet; it had to double the distance to the fence,” he said. “That was as hard as David could hit a ball.”
Another Kong shot was described as such:
According to the book "Baseball's Ultimate Power" by Bill Jenkinson, Dave Kingman of the Mets hit a 515-foot homer to left-center field on Aug. 14, 1981. The ball was still traveling high and fast when it passed the sign in left-center field marking 396 feet.

The ones hit during COVID were the quietest
I remember Ken Singleton’s last Mets HR. A bolt hit so hard,and well up on the Sheas scoreboard, it ricocheted all the way back onto the field on the fly.
The other was Butch Huskey’ launch into the top (6th) deck, reached ever by only a few others.

Strawberry’s homerun off the lip of my he stadium in Montreal that almost went through the roof; Strawberry’s homerun off Ken Dayley as mentioned earlier; Strawberry’s homerun off the middle of the scoreboard at Shea; Dave Kingman hitting onto the roof across the street at Wrigley Field; Conforto hitting it deep into McCovey Cove; and Piazza hitting a no doubter over the bullpen in LF to cap off a ten run inning against the Braves in a eight run comeback.

My favorite Piazze HR was in a 0-0 game, where Billy Wagner was almost unhittable. Came in at 100 MPH and Piazza smoked a rope to right center that left the field in the blink of an eye.
In Houston, in August! I remember that! Mike and the Mad Dog’s show started off with that highlight the next day!
In fact, the Mets were really hot and every show was starting with a Mets highlight even before the show’s starting tune played! I still remember that, and hearing it at work the next afternoon. I remember that better than the homerun itself! I was so pumped!

At Shea, there was a picnic area beyond the LF bullpen. At times, there was a large blue tent there for VIP groups.
At a Mets-Yankees game, I was seated in the upper deck in LF, and saw David Wright launch a HR that cleared both the pen and the tent. I don't know the distance, but it probably ended up deep into the parking lot, or in someone's car via the windshield. Longest HR I ever remember seeing in person.
