HOME VS. AWAY, CONT’D.
The Mets scored 21 runs in two delightful Citi Field wins over the Bronx Bunglers.
But their hitters’ stats show most still prefer road ball hitting over playing at Citi Field:
Jeff McNeil is hitting .274 on the road, and .162 at home.
Brandon Nimmo is hiring .203 home, .290 road.
Mark Vientos .258 home, .345 road.
Marte .258 home, .299 away.
Lindor .258 on the road, .235 at home, and much better in RBIs on the road.
Alonso home and away are both .240 in 2024, but much better on the road in his career.
The contrarian that he is, JD Martinez is hitting much better home than away.

I still wouldn't rush Sproat. He needs m professional i nnings. Let him finish for Bing this season and make.him AAA SP1 next spring.
Option 2 - promote him near the end of this season to Syracuse and let him help them in the playoffs
We interrupt this winning streak euphoria for a discussion about the prospects. On May 24th, FanGraphs put out the Mets top 42 prospects; they weren’t very complimentary. Now, DeMayo from SNY puts out his updated list and it isn’t very encouraging. Add in the injuries to the top of the board, and I think it’s fair to ask where the Mets minors are as a system today. There don’t seem to be any superstars and certainly the pitching prospects are more secure than the hitting prospects. My worry if the Mets ever had to sell is that we would get more of those middling prospects. How the Royals got Cole Regans last year for half of a year of Ardolis Chapman, I just can’t get over. I wish the Mets could hit a grand slam like that, but not getting a dud is vital.
I still think Mauricio is the most talented prospect in the system, and that’s after so many additions. He needs to be at second base next year and Acuna, Gilbert and Baty and can figure out where they belong. I’ve seen that the Astros may have to trade Tucker to reload and I really don’t know the player, but susposedly he is on a Hall of Fame tract. Rather than lose our minds over Soto, might it not be better to collect a few of these kids and get Tucker? How

Rising Apple just had a trade proposal posted on their site regarding a trade for Tucker after the season as a backup to not signing Soto. He is currently on the IL. Through 262 PA - .266/.395/.584 with 19 homers and 40 RBIs. He is a free agent at the end of 2025. He will ne 28 in January 2025.
The trade proposal is Tucker for Gilbert, Tidwell, Baty and any catcher prospect. Gilbert because he would be redundant. Baty in case Bregman leaves at year end. Tidwell because of the rise in Scott and Sprout. Catcher because of Alverez
Steve, interesting trade. If we want to get Soto, which seemed dead 3 weeks ago, until the Yanks started losing and the Mets winning, we should consider upgrading to a pro like Tucker, and trade prospects. I think that proposed trade is too heavy a price for the Mets to give up, but not by much.
Gus, I agree with your take. Our prospects seem middling until proven otherwise, and Mauricio is good if he can ever learn to field. Compare to Vientos who has 3 major and minor league errors, total, this year. Come close to that, Ronny, no more excuses in the field.
And if you had told me in November last year that Jett, Ronny and Gilbert would have 15 or so total games in at the halfway point this season, I would have been stunned.
Steve I am not yet convinced that Gilbert will be a better major leaguer than Rhylan Thomas. probably will, but who knows.
Stunningly, Gilbert has played in just 133 games after being drafted in 2022, so it is hard to get a good read on him.
Gus, any word on Jacob Reimer? Hamstring in spring training, not a peep since.
Mack, I definitely say AAA after the ASB for Sproat if he continues to dominate. He has a few more outings to prove his case. Interestingly, he and Gilbert were born days apart in mid-Sept 2000, so they both turn 24 in under 3 months.
I still love Tong, who is having a terrific year and is almost 3 full years younger than Sproat. I could see him, if all goes right, as a Mets rotation possibility in 2026. To me, and it may sound like a stretch, he seems to pitch a lot like Orel Hersheiser.
This has been a year that the Mets took a step back in top level prospects.
For me, the highlights are Scott, Acuna, Baty v3.0, and Tidwell

Steve, that’s an interesting trade, but I would think it looks bad for them if they want Gilbert back. It would be like us wanting PCA back, and that’s a bad look. Plus, they have lots of pitching and their top two prospects are outfielders, but, I guess more never hurt. Baty going back home is fine (he’s from Austin). I would think Acuna may be a good substitute for Gilbert. The DSL catcher is a big need for them, but would they like Parada? The Astros have big money in Altuve and a team ready to win now with Alvarez. I would think they want MLB ready pieces. They may want Scott or Butto, but maybe Peterson? So, at worst: Acuna, Baty, Scott and the DSL catcher they just signed. At best: Acuna, Baty, Parada and Peterson. These fix the Rising Apple trade.
But, for one year of Tucker, to me it seems like quite a bit. If I were GM, I would pass. I would offer Baty or Acuna, not both, and Parada and Peterson.

Not only was Sproat fabulous yesterday, but Jordan Geber and Paul Gervase were excellent as well. Gervase used 7 pitches to get 3 outs in the ninth.
Paul Skenes had 34 minors innings before the Pirates called him up. If Sproat has 2 more outings with 12 innings, he will be at 80 innings, when I'd consider if he is ready for AAA, not the Mets. I think it is doable. Skenes is Skenes, but Sproat is, what, a healthy Strider?
Mack, I understand, but college is like A/A+. We have seen college players lately get fast tracked and several from last year’s draft are already in The Show. I don’t think the young man is ready mentally, but as a 22 year old he should be pretty close. The most important thing is making sure he is ready mentally because pitchers don’t pitch anymore, they throw. That was also an article in The Athletic about that premise. So, if he has control, send him up as he shows he can handle it and let’s get some talent flowing to Queens.

We’ll get to watch Sproat earn his level. But id be disappointed if several Sproat AAA outings do not occur in 2024.
Pitching Sproat in Queens this year is like saying no soldiers died on Joe's watch
Sproat has to get to Queens this year if he wants to beat Medicare.
Drew Smith for TJ surgery. This is why pitchers are rushed now: not wanting to waste bullets in the minors if they are ready. Sproat needs to go to AAA soon and be available - if he deserves it - by September.
Gus, I agree. A pitcher gets TJS at the wrong time of year, they can miss two seasons. Get the good ones up and pitching in the bigs quickly.
Look at Skenes' minors and majors #s this year. Tremendous.
He is "early Doc Gooden elite", it appears.
