Mets start a key series in Washington as part of their drive to the pennant in 2015.  Mets built a 3-0 lead off Max Scherzer on solo homers by Michael Conforto, Kelly Johnson and Yoenis Cespedes.  Washington bounced back on Wilson Ramos' grand slam in the 4th as part of a 5 run inning off Jonathan Niese.  Mets came back to tie it up in the 6th and took the lead in the 7th.

NY Post: Mets pick up king-sized win behind stunningly solid bullpen. "David Wright’s RBI single and Yoenis Cespedes’ run-scoring double highlighted a three-run seventh inning as the Mets took an 8-5 lead. Wilmer Flores’ leadoff single and Curtis Granderson’s walk set up the inning. For the final run, Cespedes hit a shot to the right-center gap and Wright slid in to just beat the relay home, before leaping up and pumping his first in excitement at the safe call."

ESPN,com: "Dario Alvarez (1-0), pitching in the majors for the first time this season, faced only one batter -- Harper -- and struck him out to get his first major league win. Five Mets relievers combined for 5 2/3 scoreless innings. Jeurys Familia struck out the side for his 37th save, including Harper."

With the win, the Mets moved to 5 games up in 1st place.
