Perez Project, No No-Hitter, NYC Subway, Jack Egbert... and Ranked Scout Directors

Perez Project:

This 2010 Perez Project is obscured somewhat by thyroid readings, the presence of Jason Bay and two Japanese pitchers who appear to delight their would-be manager at every turn. But make no mistake, success in the Perez Project certainly would put the Mets on substantially firmer footing than they are now and do more to help the team than any development other than overnight healing for Carlos Beltran and a normalized thyroid reading for Jose Reyes.- link

No No-Hitter:

The Mets are one of four teams to have never pitched a no-hitter. Two of the other three teams are recent expansion teams (Tampa Bay Rays and Colorado Rockies). The other team is the San Diego Padres, who came into existence in 1969. The closest the Padres came to a no-no was in 1972, when Steve Arlin’s bid was broken up by the Phillies’ Denny Doyle with two outs in the ninth inning. That’s closer than any Mets pitcher has ever come, as no Met hurler in the team’s 48-year history has been within one out of a no-hitter. - link

NYC Subway:

The conductor looks at me and I'm thinking it's that "what the hell are you doing leaning on the door ... don't you read the signs that say don't lean on the door of the subway car" look. So I immediately apologize to him. What do you think the conductor says to me at that moment?

"Dude, you're gonna need a replacement shortstop."

It was a re-affirmation moment for me. This guy most likely has never read my blog or heard of my blog. But he looked at my Mets logo and immediately went into a Jose Reyes riff. He's why I blog. - link
Jack Egbert:

I don't know much about Jack Egbert, except that the Mets grabbed him off waivers in Sept. and because he's a local guy he decided to stay after he was DFA. Andy McCullough of the Star Ledger paints a great picture of just how tough this game can be, basically after spending years in the White Sox org. two outings ended his stay and now he's already buried in our camp after a rough inning of relief... link

Ranked Scout Directors:

30. New York Mets, Rudy Terrasas: I have to go with the director that was almost on the chopping block at the end of season in 2009. Terrasas is in a difficult predicament, having few resources and picking hit-or-miss players, making his job even more difficult. The few resources he’s given are sometimes wasted on players that have no future as Major League players. For that reason, he gets the last spot on the list. - link
