LAST GAME: The B-Mets dropped game one of a doubleheader 3-1 before earning a walk-off, 3-2 win in the nightcap against the Erie SeaWolves last night at NYSEG Stadium. Josh Satin’s fourth-inning home run off Erie starter Jay Voss gave the B-Mets a 1-0 lead, but the advantage would be short-lived. The SeaWolves leadoff batter in each of the final three innings reached safely and scored, giving Erie the come-from-behind win. Robert Carson took the hard-luck loss, his seventh of the season. Binghamton was held to just two hits by Voss and Zach Simons. In the nightcap, right-hander Collin McHugh made his Double-A debut. McHugh was sharp, but the defense was not in the first inning. The SeaWolves took advantage of a fielding error and two botched double plays to pick up the game’s first run. Binghamton responded with a run on Salo-mon Manriquez’s single in the bottom of the first. McHugh settled down to retire the next 13 batters he faced. Allan Dykstra’s bases-loaded walk capped a two-out rally and gave the B-Mets a 2-1 lead in the third. Audy Ciriaco tied it by tripling off McHugh in the fifth and scoring on Eric Campbell’s fielding error. Binghamton had a chance to win it in the seventh, but left the bases loaded against reliever Austin Wood. Raul Reyes came through in the eighth with a single to right field to bring home Dykstra with the game-winning run.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Jeurys Familia makes his fifth start for the B-Mets and fourth at NYSEG Stadium. Familia struck out a season-high seven in a no-decision against the Altoona Curve on May 27. The right-hander allowed three runs on five hits over five innings. Familia is holding opponents to a .207 batting average. He was signed a non-drafted free agent by the Mets in July 2007.
RHP Mark Sorensen will make his tenth start of the year and third against the B-Mets. Sorensen allowed seven runs on ten hits in a five-inning complete-game win over the Reading Phillies in a game shortened by fog on May 27. The Michigan native started against Binghamton on April 11 and May 5. He has gone 0-1 with a 7.50 ERA versus the B-Mets. In 12 in-nings, he has allowed 10 runs on 15 hits and logged just four strike outs.
WALK-OFF WINNERS: Raul Reyes’ game-winning single in the bottom of the eighth last night gave Binghamton their first walk-off win of the season. Binghamton has had five walk-off loses this year, including one against Erie.
KEEPING HIM BUSY IN CENTER: In two games yesterday, the B-Mets flew out to centerfield 14 times. Jamie Johnson logged all 15 innings in center and recorded each putout.
