Two of the Red Sox top prospects, OF Ryan Kalish, and IF Yamaico Navarro, are currently on the DL and would not be considered by the Mets in any deal.
I can’t see SS Jose Iglesias, being the guy. Frankly, he’s a Reyes without a bat, which the Mets have already in Ruben Tejada.
The top four prospects the Mets will be looking at are:
LHP Drake Britton – The 6-2 lefty’s fastball sits 92-94 and hits 96-97 late into the game. Was one of the top pitchers in the Sally League last year (2.97) but has struggled this year at the A+ level (1-5, 6.30).
RHP Anthony Ranaudo – You don’t get someone that can step immediately into the Mets rotation; however, many consider him the steal of the 2010 draft. Ranaudo was considered a lock for one of the top three picks in the draft, but injuries cost him to fall to the Red Sox. He rebounded in the Cape Cod League and he now projects as the top Boston prospect in the system. Let’s say the Mets drafit either Matt Barnes or Archie Bradley. Can you imagine a 2013 rotation of Harvey, Renaudo, Barnes/Bradley, Mejia, and Familia?
OF Bryce Brentz – another 2010 draft pick, he currently is tied for 4th in the SAL with 11-HRs. Solid corner outfielder with plus power.
OF Josh Reddick – has not played well this year in Boston and could be available. Plate discipline continues to be his problem but the power potential is plus-plus.
