Harrisburg 7, Binghamton 3

The Harrisburg Senators took a lead two batters into the ballgame and never looked back, taking the series finale over the B-Mets 7-3 today at NYSEG Stadium.

Steve Lombardozzi was the trend-setter, leading off the first inning with a single off Binghamton starter Brandon Moore. The second baseman moved to third when Moore’s attempted pick-off throw rolled down the right field line. Josh Johnson made him pay by grounding out to short to give the visiting team the early advantage.

Moore allowed the leadoff batter to reach in four of his five innings on the mound. All four came home to score.

After Bill Rhinehart got on base and scored in the second, Allan Dykstra got the B-Mets on the score sheet in the bottom half. The first baseman sent a towering drive over the right field fence off starter Shairon Martis. It was Dykstra’s sixth home run of the season.

The Senators tacked on a run in the third and another in the fifth before Binghamton put together a rally. In the bottom of the fifth, Eric Campbell came off the bench and supplied a pinch-hit double to right field. Campbell’s drive brought Jean Luc Blaquiere home to make it 4-2.

Jordany Valdespin followed with a base hit through the hole on the right side to plate Campbell. Valdespin, representing the tying run, swiped second base and advanced to third on catcher Devin Ivany’s throwing error. The shortstop would advance no further as he watched Jon Malo strike out to end the inning.

Trailing 4-3, Binghamton had a pair of opportunities to tie it late in the game, but Bubba Bell was stranded at third base in the sixth and Josh Satin was left ninety feet away in the eighth.

In the ninth, Josh Johnson took Eric Niesen deep with a three-run home run to add a four-run cushion. Zach Zinicola took the mound for the Senators and worked around a two-out basehit to close out the win.
