GNATS BLAST BIRDS 10-0 FRIDAY
Savannah, GA - TheSavannah Sand Gnats blasted the Delmarva Shorebirds 10-0 in front of 2209 fansFriday night at Historic Grayson Stadium. The Gnats (17-11) swept thethree-game series from the Shorebirds (13-14) and have now won five games in arow.
The Gnats scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning totake control early. LF Dustin Lawley brought home two runs by ripping a double up the left-center field gap to platethe first two runs. Lawley scored on an RBI single into left field from CF Travis Taijeron. After Taijeron tooksecond on a wild pitch, he came around on a single into right field by RF Charley Thurber. It appeared the throwfrom Delmarva right fielder Brenden Webbbeat Taijeron home, but he eluded the tag to score to put Savannah in front 4-0.
The Gnats added single runs in the third and sixth innings for a6-0 lead before scoring four runs in the eighth to finish the game’s scoring.
Taijeron finished 3-4 with a double, a triple, three runs, and twoRBI. He has hits in each of his last five games during which time he is11-for-21 with seven extra-base hits, three doubles, a triple and three homerruns.
Savannah starter Tyler Pill threw six shutout innings to earn his third win of the year to improve to3-1. He yielded eight hits and walked two, but struck out a season-high eightbatters.
Reliever Jack Leathersich worked a perfect seventh and eighth innings, fanning two. He has struck out 26batters in 17 innings of work for the Gnats.
The Gnats welcome the Lakewood BlueClaws to Savannah for afour-game series Saturday at 6:05 for Pink-in-the-Park Night presented by LaskyLaw Group. Savannah will send RHP Michael Fulmer (0-2, 4.08) to the mound against LHP Ervis Manzanillo (0-1, 6.00). Gates open at 5 pm. The radiobroadcast, presented by Subway, begins on News/Talk 630 and online atsandgnats.com at 5:45 pm.
