The St. Lucie Mets exploded for a nine-run second inning as they cruised past the Jupiter Hammerheads 15-6 to win their sixth straight game. The Mets hit five home runs and pounded out 19 hits to improve to 21-4. Richard Lucas opened the scoring for the Mets with a two-run home run in the second. Robbie Shields drilled a 3-run homer to left to give the Mets a 5-1 lead. Cesar Puello extended the lead with an RBI single. The Mets batted around in the second inning as Lucas ripped a two-run single to right. Wilfredo Tovar hit a leadoff homer to left in the third inning to make it 10-1. Cory Vaughn and Wilmer Flores hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning to give the Mets a 12-3 lead. Vaughn had an RBI groundout in the seventh and delivered a two-run double to left in the eighth. Yohan Almonte allowed six runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings with three walks and three strikeouts and picked up his second victory .Ryan Fraser induced an inning-ending double play in the sixth inning after Jupiter loaded the bases and scored three times. D.J. Carrasco retired the side in order in the seventh with two strikeouts. Hamilton Bennett tossed two scoreless innings and allowed two hits with one strikeout. Vaughn had three hits with two runs scored and four RBIs. Lucas went 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Flores went 4-for-6 with two runs and an RBI. Danny Muno and Puello each had three hits while Tovar had two hits and three runs scored.The Mets will host the Jupiter Hammerheads on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Erik Goeddel is the scheduled starter for the Mets.
