LAST GAME: Joe Bonfe blasted a walk-off, solo home run to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning to send the B-Mets past the Bowie Baysox, 5-4 Sunday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton trailed in the game three different times, but used the long ball to crawl back into the game. Travis Taijeron and Richard Lucas both hit solo home runs in the game. Taijeron now has four home runs in his first seven games. Chase Huchingson threw a scoreless top of the ninth and picked up his third win of the season. Mark Cohoon started the game and got a no-decision after throwing five innings and allowing four runs and nine hits.
BINGHAMTON STARTING PITCHER: RHP Erik Goeddel makes his 13th start of the season for the B-Mets. After a 1-2 start, Goeddel has won his last five decisions. He beat Trenton on June 11 after giving up two runs and eight hits in six innings. He struck out a season-high eight hitters in the win. On the road this season, he is 4-1 with a 4.50 ERA. In 13.0 innings in June, Goeddel is 2-0 and has only allowed two earned runs. Opponents are hitting .258 against the righty, and the B-Mets have won each of his last nine starts.

RICHMOND STARTING PITCHER: LHP Carlos Teller makes his seventh start of the season with Richmond. He has lost each of his last starts after winning his first decision. He allowed two runs and six hits in 6.0 innings pitched against the Harrisburg Senators. Opponents are batting .196 against Teller. In 28.2 innings, Teller has struck out 24 and also walked 24 batters. Richmond is the third team this season that Teller has pitched for. He has made five relief appearances between San Jose (High-A) and Fresno (AAA).

OFF DAY: Monday was the fifth off day for the B-Mets in 2013. Tuesday begins a stretch where Binghamton plays 22 games in 21 days (DH vs. Trenton 6/29). The next time Binghamton is off is July 9-10 for the Eastern League All-Star Break.

WALK-OFF WINNERS: Joe Bonfe’s walk-off home run gave Binghamton their third walk-off win of the season. The last B-Met walk-off home run was August 27, 2011 when Reese Havens did it against Altoona. Bonfe’s last home run was in August 2011 with the Savannah Sand Gnats (Low-A).

GREAT START TO JUNE: The B-Mets are 11-2 through the first 13 games of June. As a team they are hitting .297 and have scored 76 runs this month (5.8 per game). Cesar Puello leads the league in batting average in June (.515) and has nine extra base hits. Allan Dykstra is hitting .412 with a .553 on-base percentage with four home runs, and Danny Muno ranks second in the league this month with 14 RBI. The pitching staff has also been strong on the mound; they have posted a 2.77 ERA.



ANOTHER SERIES WIN: Sunday’s rubber match win over Bowie gave Binghamton their sixth consecutive series victory. Their 2013 series record is 12-4-4 and they have not lost a series since May 6-8 vs. Trenton (1-2). Sunday’s game was the fourth straight rubber match Binghamton has won, and they are 5-2 in rubber matches this season.

RARE SERIES AGAINST RICHMOND: Tuesday begins the first of two series against the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Each team will play one series at their home park. Richmond visits NYSEG Stadium for a three-game series from July 15-17. Reading is now the only team in the league that Binghamton has not played against this season.

THE NEWCOMER PRODUCING: In Travis Taijeron’s first seven games with the Binghamton Mets, he is hitting .367 (11-for-30) with four doubles, four home runs, and 11 RBI. He was promoted from St. Lucie (High-A) where he was hitting .303 with nine home runs and 27 RBI.

NEXT GAME PREVIEW: Binghamton continues their three-game series against Richmond Wednesday night at 6:35 PM. The B-Mets will send LHP Darin Gorski to the mound to face RHP Taylor Rogers.
