Mets Split Doubleheader with Stone Crabs

PORT CHARLOTTE, FLA. — T.J. Rivera had a go-ahead RBI single in the seventh as the Mets defeated the Charlotte Stone Crabs 5-3 in the second game of a doubleheader to salvage the final game of the series.

The Stone Crabs defeated the Mets 7-4 in the first game of the doubleheader. The Stone Crabs scored four runs in the sixth against Luis Mateo on a two-run double from Drew Vettleson and a two-run homer from Jeff Malm.

Albert Cordero's RBI groundout cut the deficit to 7-4 in the seventh. The Mets loaded the bases with two outs before Lenny Linsky struck out Charley Thurber to end the game.

Thurber and Travis Taijeron had back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning.

Angel Cuan pitched five innings and allowed three runs.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Taijeron had two solo home runs to pace the Mets offense.

Matt Bowman pitched five innings and allowed three runs with one walk and two strikeouts. Estarlin Morel retired all four batters in relief to pick up his third win. Hamilton Bennett recorded the final two outs for his third save.

The Mets will host the Lakeland Flying Tigers in the opener of a four-game series on Monday, June 3 at 6:30 p.m. at Tradition Field. Noah Syndergaard will make the start for the Mets.
