Mack Report: - Wally Murphy, Jack Flynn, Jenrry Mejia, Oliver Perez, and Mike Nickeas

Mack Report

Sunday, December 11, 2011

I'm happy to announce that Wally Murphy has returned to Mack's Mets as the Savannah Sand Gnats beat reporter. Wally hasn't missed a home Gnat game since they invented running water and you can always count on his report the morning after every home game. He also spells like me. Welcome home, Wally.

In addition, Jack Flynn will be returning to Mack’s Mets as a contributing writer. Jack had his own Mets blog for a number of years and co-hosted my live draft coverage at Flushing University two years ago. Jack and I both share the “cup is half empty” attitude regarding the new Mets and we’ll leave the “half-full” side to the real… and first… Rubin.

Additionally, in the spirit of the recent Dem-Rep tax agreement, Mack’s Mets has suspended any plans on going to a paid subscription site, for 2011. I mean, just because I’m broke, why should you be?

Remember… we are still looking for local reporters to keep us honest during the season in Port St. Lucie, Kingsport, Brooklyn, Binghamton, the D.R., and Buffalo. Contact me at macksmets@gmail.com if you’d like to join the team.

Word out of Latin America is that P Jenrry Mejia is throwing quite well. It really doesn’t matter what the stats are down there, because you could be pitching to the guy that delivers the dead chickens to your door the next day, but what’s important is his velocity is fine and he’s throwing strikes. His three-inning outing screams of being stretched back to a starter, which is what he should start out being in Buffalo come April 1st.

Oliver Perez pitched somewhere down their last night also. He had a no-hitter going for three innings (no one on the opponent team is on any 40-man MLB squad), then blew up… that’s fine. Remember, all this guy is going to be for the Mets is a LOOGY in 2011. No one in their right mind would let this guy pitch the first inning for the Mets ever again. I don’t care how well he pitches… he represents a Mets era that we all want to forget as soon as possible.

In looking at the April 2011 schedule for the Mets, they will only need an SP5 for three outings during that month.

C Mike Nickeas facebook’s the fact that he is on his way to the Dominican Republic… good… Nickeas is the Mets’ insurance policy behind the mound for 2011. Good to see that business is usual at the minor levels.
