Cesar Puello, Gus Bell, Aaron Heilman, Carlos Gomez, and Jim Fregosi

Cesar Puello:

Puello is a surprising speedster who loves to run. “I want to steal more bases,” said Puello after a Gnats victory, “I like to be dirty. I like to slide. When I slide, I get that special feeling.” I guess he really likes that ‘special feeling’ by looking at his 83% success rate on the base paths, good for second in the SAL with 44 stolen bases and having been caught only nine times all year.

Gus Bell:

His All-Star days long past, the soon-to-be-33-year-old Bell could still provide adequate corner outfield defense, but his hitting had badly faded. The actual Mets chose him far higher in the draft than he was worth, as his value to an expansion team would likely be only what he might draw in a trade.

Aaron Heilman:

•A new name to keep in mind for the Rockies is free agent reliever Aaron Heilman, Renck tweets. Colorado has tried to land the 32-year-old multiple times in recent years. – “So the new relief name to keep an eye on is Aaron Heilman. Rockies have try to land him multiple times over the last few years” - http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/12/rockies-notes-francis-aardsma-.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

Carlos Gomez:

Carlos Gomez agreed Friday to a $1.5 million, one-year contract with the Milwaukee Brewers, a $400,000 raise. The outfielder also avoided arbitration last year by agreeing to a $1.1 million, one-year deal. He receives the same $100,000 in available performance bonuses: $25,000 each for 450, 475, 500 and 525 plate appearances. Gomez hit .247 with five home runs and 24 RBIs in 318 plate appearances over 97 games. He had 18 stolen bases.

Jim Fregosi:

Every time an Art Howe wants to move a Mike Piazza to first base or an Art Howe (there's that name again) wants to move a Jose Reyes to second, I fall into a cold sweat, my palms get moist and I have flashbacks to 1972, when the Mets traded Nolan Ryan & prospects to the Angels for Shortstop, Jim Fregosi.

This pretty good hindsight as he was traded for Frank Thomas, the ONLY offensive threat on the '62 Mets.

And the fact that Bell (the PTBNL) started in the same opening day outfield with Thomas has to be the answer to some trivia question somewhere.
