8/8/11

Stock: - Havens, Missingman, Carson, Goeddel, Wheeler

Reese Havens:

8-6-11: - Stock Up – I can’t seem to make up my mind about this guy. First, I hated the draft pick then I fell in love with his game. Now, once or twice a year he gets hot and I get excited, which is usually followed by some leg or back injury. He’s on a tear again. Had three hits, home run, double last night. .351 in the last 10 days. Havens turns 25 in October. It’s time.

Craig Missingman:

8-6-11: - Stock Down – It seems that the one inning per outing being levied on Mets draft picks this year doesn’t go as far down as the 37th round. Missingman signed early and started Saturday afternoon for the GCL team, but only lasted 2.2-IP. He’s now pitched 14.0 innings in six games, four of which he went scoreless. The other two yielded nine runs in 3.3-IP.

Robert Carson:

8-6-11: - Stock Down – Frankly, there hasn’t been that much good to write about Carson this season. He gave up another five runs in four innings, which raised his seasonal ERA to 4.88. This was his 20th start after 27 starts last year in A+/AA that produced a 5.67 combined ERA. I don’t see anyone being promoted from St. Lucie soon, so I expect Robert to finish the season as a starter, but it seems a safe bet that he’s heading to the pen in 2012.

Erik Goeddel:

8-7-11- Stock Up – Erik Goedell got back on the Sand Gnats’ horse Sunday after being DL’d for the better part of the season. He pitched four innings, giving up no runs, five huts, and one walk, while striking out one. His Sally League ERA is now 2.49. His DL stint and the recent draft probably cost him any chance of starting next season in St. Lucie. I’ll be thrilled to take him back in Savannah.

Zack Wheeler:

8-7-11: - Stock Up – Zack Wheeler passed his latest test with flying colors: 6.0-IP, 4-H, 0-R, 7-K, 0-BB. He now has 102-K in 92,0 innings and it’s becoming obvious that he will easily move on the Binghamton at the beginning of next season. What a great trade (did I tell you that Beltran is day-to-day with the Giants?).
