Hot Stove: - Bruce Chen, Wilfredo Ledezma, Jimmy Rollins, Joe Nathan, Winter Meetings

Second verse, same as the first. The crafty 34-year-old netted a two-year deal following a surprising 2011. Bruce Chen relies on varying arm angles and induces even fewer empty hacks than Garcia. He traded a chunk of his already shaky K/9 for control gains last season. At least thanks to his deception, Chen's BABIP can sit consistently below .300, but fly-ball arms typically produce such patterns. The southpaw's home digs cater to his scary-high fly rates (which, like Garcia's, also benefit from many infield pop-ups). But how confident are you that opponents won't start taking more advantage of his soft stuff and that he'll have another year of above-average luck for stranding runners? This isn't a profile that deserves increased faith, especially with the glut of other in-house candidates with rotation potential (including the promising Aaron Crow) that could step in if Chen struggles. Chen said in September that he wants his career path to emulate Jamie Moyer's, and Fangraphs' Eric Seidman explored that comparison. That paints an appropriate fantasy baseball picture, reminding you to ride his streaks with a quick mixed trigger finger and to play him most comfortably as frame-gobbling depth in single-universe setups.  http://www.kffl.com/a.php/129133/192/fantasy-baseball/Fantasy-Baseball-Hot-Stove--Freddy-Garcia--Bruce-Chen#ixzz1ekSaEyPm

Jimmy Rollins turns 33 years old today, and if he didn't play another game in his career, he'd have had a pretty good run. He's won three Gold Gloves, an MVP Award and served as a centerpiece on a championship team. Sometime in 2012 he may collect his 2,000th career hit and his 400th career stolen base, and it's possible that in 2013 he will hit his 200th homer. Within the echelon of shortstops, in which a 93 OPS+ can get you into the Hall of Fame, he is among the best players of his generation at his position, and yes, he is building a case as a borderline candidate for induction at Cooperstown. And remember, most of his at-bats have come since baseball implemented serious testing for performance-enhancing drugs in 2006. http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/blog?name=olney_buster&id=7286338&_slug_=the-phillies-offer-five-years-bring-back-their-shortstop-mlb&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fmlb%2fblog%3fname%3dolney_buster%26id%3d7286338%26_slug_%3dthe-phillies-offer-five-years-bring-back-their-shortstop-mlb

After a month on the disabled list, Joe Nathan returned with a slider that was nearly unhittable. Batters managed just two hits in 35 at-bats (.057) and whiffed on almost half of their swings in his final 31 appearances. The vertical break on his slider nearly doubled to 2.8 inches during this stretch, and of the 18 sliders put in play, not a single one was classified as "well hit" by video scouts at Inside Edge. Nathan has a good history against the Rangers current AL West opponents, converting 43 of 48 save chances for his career against the Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Angels, and Oakland Athletics. In 83 innings against those three teams, he’s allowed just 10 earned runs, and his WHIP against each is 0.85 or lower http://espn.go.com/blog/statsinfo/post/_/id/32863/a-closer-look-at-nathan-barmes-leblanc

In just one week from tomorrow, the 2011 MLB Winter Meetings will kick off in Dallas, Texas. The four day event will run from December 5-8 and it’s expected to draw over 3,000 people including the GM and key front office people from all 30 Major League Baseball organizations. Also in attendance will be countless free agent players and player agents – not to mention hundreds of sports journalists and beat writers trolling the lobbies and tweeting everything from what they had for lunch and to who’s talking to who. The rumor mill will churn around-the-clock mostly with fanciful fabrications and wild speculations. However, every now and then a real deal or signing actually goes down, and as always we’ll try to separate the wheat from the chaff for you on MMO. http://metsmerizedonline.com/2011/11/one-week-until-the-2011-baseball-winter-meetings-can-i-get-a-hell-yeah.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MetsMerizedOnline-GetMetsmerized-NewYorkMets+%28Mets+Merized+Online%29
