A credible source has confirmed to me that the Mets are monitoring and are very interested in SS Starlin Castro

He basically is coming off a Tejada type season himself. So unless its a change of scenery/attitude swap of those shorstops, I say no thank u.

I wouldn't exactly call Castro's season (691 PA - .245/.284/.347, 10 HR) a Tejada type season. (227 PA - .202/.259/.260, 0 HR) Moreover, Castro has had a couple of .300+ seasons under his young belt. (6 mos. younger than Tejada) If I was Alderson, and my phone rang, and my sec'y said Theo Epstein was on the line and wanted to talk about Castro, I think I'd take the call.

i would trade montero and tejada for castro. Castro is a legit ball player and would be taught by wright, granderson, etc. its a match made in heaven.

You asked the question of Mack, but let me hop in. I would not give up Rafael Montero for Castro. Despite the fact that he is young, and that he put up some impressive numbers in his first two seasons, he has declined two years in a row, and is definitely coming off a down season last year. That plus he is an average fielder at short. I'd give up some good prospects to get him, but not a Montero. And I doubt that they would want Tejada. So I'd be talking deGrom or Mazzoni, and maybe a lower level pitching prospect and or position prospect. I wonder if Mack will agree.
Bob, I would not trade Montero for anyone right now.
He has that much potential at a current minimum team controlled cost.
It's a minimum $49 million commitment for Castro given the contract he's signed already with the Cubs.

Well, if it is true... he isn't signed or anything... but, according to a very reliable source within the industry, he is being 'monitored' by the Mets... lots of people are sent out to check out lots of people. I'm sure there are many more shortstops right now under the Mets radar. It seems Castro is one of them.

His 2012 season would have been nice (Value Added: $18.5M) to have and he was well worth his $10M salary.
However he missed significant time due to a severe ankle injury which will likely affect his speed going forward. He still managed be worth his $10M salary (value added: $11.0M) in 2013 but going forward it is going to be harder to actually produce enough to be worth his contract.

2016: $22M

2014: 3.7 WAR - $16.65M
