Draft 14 - A Quick Look - RHP - Chris Ellis - Mississippi

     Chris Ellis                Mississippi

9-10-13 – Top Arms in 2013 Cape Cod League - Chris Ellis 6-5/195, (Ole Miss) Cotuit Kettleers 37.2 IP, 23 K, 2.39 ERA: FB 87-94 CB 79-81 CH 82-84 -  He flashed 1st round stuff throughout the summer. His power curve looks borderline unhittable at times, and the change has a lot of late life. His frame can still fill out, and the FB velocity is only going to increase and become more consistent. http://bullpenbanter.com/2013-all-cape-team-pitchers/

B/R – 11-21-13 - 17. Baltimore Orioles: Chris Ellis, RHP, Mississippi - Chris Ellis, a 6’5”, 205-pound right-hander, didn’t receive much exposure last spring while working out of Ole Miss’s bullpen. However, after a dominant showing in the Cape Cod League this past summer, he now ranks among the top pitching prospects in the 2014 draft class. Ellis has a heavy fastball in the low- to mid-90s with late life, and he complements it with an impressive changeup in the mid-80s with plus potential. The right-hander throws his slider in the 80-83 mph range, though it’s an inconsistent pitch and lags behind his fastball-changeup combo. He profiles as a No. 3 or No. 4 starter in the major leagues.  http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1860341-2014-mlb-mock-draft-early-first-round-projections-for-all-30-teams/page/10

12-9-13 – Pine Tar Press  -  15- RHP Chris Ellis Ole Miss- Ellis had an excellent summer on the Cape and like many others before him at the greatest place to be for baseball in the summer team he set himself up as a potential 1st round pick. He was used more as a RP as a sophomore but you have to think a lot of eyes will be on Ellis this season when he toes the slab as a weekend starter. He has 3 quality pitches and gets plenty of life out of his 91-93 MPH fastball. He also has a very good slider. (Yankees @ 18) http://pinetarpress.com/early-look-2014-mlb-draft/

1-14-14 – PG - It doesn’t come as a surprise when certain players are dubbed “sleepers” or as “flying under the radar”, as many of them come from less than traditional baseball hot-beds or have a more undervalued skill-set. Then, there are players like Ole Miss righthander, Chris Ellis that shouldn’t surprise anyone, but appears poised to do just that nonetheless. There’s nothing sneaky about Ellis’ raw stuff, his delivery, or where he goes to school. And, he performed at a top notch level in the nation’s elite collegiate summer league on Cape Cod in 2013. But, nevertheless, Ellis has not yet received his full credit for being the potential first round selection that his ability clearly dictates that he may be. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9288
