When I was a little kid, the local movie had double features for 25 cents.
Awesome!
No single movie shows, as I recall...every ticket got you a double feature. HEAVEN!
But this is a baseball site...what about how this concept could apply to baseball?
Sometimes 9 inning games can be thrilling. Many times, though, they are long and boring.
Down 8-0 after 5 innings? Four more to go? Aargh!
Now, we have 7 inning games in doubleheaders for the first time in 2020. Cool.
Got me thinking...why not radically change baseball to 300 games, with two 5 inning games daily?
Single admission, two games. Pass the popcorn.
Win quick, lose quick, with non-stop tension. Every inning counts.
No time to catch up if you screw up.
Poop or get off the pot.
Radical, yes.
But I kinda like it.
Ernie Banks (Mr. “Let’s Play Two”) might’ve loved it.
And, for instance, Jake goes every 4th day, and sometimes every 3rd day in a pinch, if games are 5 innings.
You’d need another few pitchers on each roster, but that means JOBS JOBS JOBS.
No more sneering at guys labeled as 5 inning pitchers.
Get radical! CMON MAN!

But I do like the 7 inning doubleheaders. Too many arms are falling off these days, lighten the pitcher burdens a bit. Especially if you get into (and deep into) the playoffs.
Thinking about double features though.
3D twin bonanza: saw "It Came from Outer Space" (Richard Carlson) and "The Charge at Feather River" (Guy Madison) back-to-back. Great afternoon in '53 or '54 at the Patio Theater on Flatbush Ave just south of Ebbets.
