CAN JAKE PITCH EVERY DAY WITH 18 RUNS?
What a magnificent game...18-1.
Jake, no doubt, would like the sudden recent burst of run support to be spread out a bit.
But this offense is a killer, and maybe he can get used to huge support.
So, I have a question - and maybe it was addressed at some point last night, but I ask it nonetheless:
Given that the Mets are in a fight just to make the playoffs, and Jake deGrom is clearly the best pitcher on the planet and is now backed by a thundering offense and a resurgent Edwin Diaz:
WHY NOT PULL JAKE AFTER 5 INNINGS JUST IN CASE HE CAN BE USED EVERY FOURTH DAY?
The schedule would have allowed it...why not try it?
Let's say in the next start the Mets need Jake to go 8 innings?
Then the 4 day rotation thing can be scrapped right then and there. Go right back to 5 days between games, because he is not going on 3 days rest after 8 innings.
But what if this stunningly good offense, with Wilson Ramos finally seeming ready to join the slugging party, gets him out to an 8-0 lead after 5 in the next start? You pull him after 5 and get him ready for the next game on 3 days rest. Next start? Same deal. Hopefully it is 10-0 after 5 and you pull him. Nothing is impossible with this offense. Next start, the last game of the season? Same deal.
If they're in the playoffs before the last game, you rest him and save him for the playoffs.
But, other than Seth Lugo, he is light years better than the other starters. Even replacing one of those starts with Jake could have made THE difference.
I want to see a team starting Jake deGrom and Seth Lugo, with Edwin in the pen, and THIS offense make the playoffs - because THAT could be enough to go a long, long way in the post-season.
So I'm just spitballin' here.
QUESTION:
I missed the Statcast on Dom Smith's grand slam. How far did THAT baby go? What an awesome hitter he has become. Can't say it enough.
LASTLY:
The team is hitting .279, first by far. Has any Mets team ever had the highest team average in baseball? I think not.
Only hitting 20th best with RISP at .249 - but boy, has that number ever surged up from its earlier season doldrums when RISP was flirting with .200.
Man, I LOVE the hitting. LOVE IT.

I think Jake should have been pulled after 5.
I also think his replacement should have been saved for a start later on this week.
Ramirez has pitched very well twice. Remarkable, since he allowed a whopping 16 HRs over 49 innings in 2018 and 2019. Let's hope he continues to pitch well. The Mets sure need it.
We need him to be real for the remaining season.
Question will be if we try to resign him next year.
He has a nice audition window. He’s had some success pre-2018. Could be a 6th starter/reliever
