PG -

Christopher Bernal is a 2021 C/3B with a 5-10 190 lb. frame from McAllen, TX who attends Mcallen. Strong and compact proto-type catcher's build. Has good quickness behind the plate defensively both in his feet and hands, gets rid of the ball quickly, 2.01 pop time in game, plays with energy behind the plate and has sound overall fundamentals. Right handed hitter, hits from an open stance with a tight and compact hand load, fluid shift into contact, pull to mid field contact, swings hard but tends to stay inside the ball too much on occasion, has the strength to drive the ball into the gaps

Christopher Bernal, C - Heading into this event I had Bernal as a solid catching prospect, but one a little ways down the list in what is a very strong year for prep catchers. Bernal turned in an eye opening performance, showing more athleticism than I had seen, impacting the game with his play on the bases, in defense(including some work in the infield), and especially with the bat. Bernal is now firmly in the middle of the pack with a chance to keep pushing his way up the list this spring.

Christopher Bernal, C, Premier Baseball Scout Team

Bernal, a Texas State commit, has always been known as a top-level defensive catcher with a plus arm and he certainly was that in Fort Myers.  But he’s always been held back a bit by his offensive game.  That wasn’t the case over the course of five games in Fort Myers, as Bernal knocked out seven hits in 11 at-bats (.636), showing a well-controlled aggression in the box that resulted in repeated gap to gap line drives.
