There’s a lot to like in Ty Madden as your prototypical big league arm. He’s got great size, an up arrow in projection, and comes with a proven track record from a Power 5 conference. The walks from his freshman year are something to keep an eye on in a full, 60-game season in 2021, though that issue may have been cleaned up in 2020.

The biggest question mark I have surrounding Madden and his ceiling is the arsenal itself. Anybody that throws strikes and can pump 95-96 with an above average slider is going to find success in some capacity at the big league level. That said, if the fastball doesn’t redefine itself, and neither the curveball nor changeup take a definitive step into the “average” category in 2021, I do have to wonder whether he’s a top-of-the-rotation arm at the next level.

MLB.com has listed its Top 100 draft prospects for the 2021 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, and one particular name may be recognizable to to local sports fans.

Southridge senior Colson Montgomery is listed No. 48 in the Top 100 of the 2021 class, and is 20th among high school players. He's listed as a third baseman who bats left and throws right. The 2021 MLB Draft is set to begin July 11.

Michael Morales didn’t always perform up to his expectations on the showcase circuit last summer. He used the adversity he faced as a learning experience, though.

The right-handed prep pitcher started the showcase circuit by struggling in the Perfect Game National Showcase in June. It was his first time back on the mound in a game since he had a PRP injection in his knee towards the end of 2019.

Following the Perfect Game event, Morales pitched in a local men’s league in Pennsylvania. The league consisted of mostly college seniors to 30-year-olds. Morales returned to the showcase circuit in August, competing in the East Coast Pro Showcase, Area Code Games, and Under Armour All-America Game.

He thrived in all three of those events, which allowed him to gain confidence and boost his status in the 2021 prep class.

12-20-20 - Ted Williams @T_Wills1

Anyone looking for a power-hitting 1B? ‘21 Michael Ciocco (Peters Township) impressed all summer w/ top notch bat-speed (79.5 mph peak per @Blast_Bsbl). Add in a 105 mph exit velo @TrackManBB & the fact that he hit an absolute moonshot during gameplay (403 feet).

12-20-20  -  Dan Zielinski III  @DanZielinski3

Cody Morissette (@CodyMorissette) has played at a high level in his first two years at @BCBirdBall. Read about the junior infielder's development, goals for the spring season, and status as a top #MLBDraft prospect

12-20-20 - Joe @JoeDoyleMiLB

RHP Thatcher Hurd is getting a lot of attention leading into the Winter. Name on the rise. 91-93/t94 @ 2500. High spin w/run. SL 78-80. High spin + sharp @ 2800-2900. Fringy CH. Good command. Easy arm-speed. Super-projectable body. Watch for velo tick in Spring. 1st round talent

May not be a bigger mystery in college baseball than Colton Cowser. Cowser has really seen his stock rise. A lightly-recruited prospect coming out of HS, he now has first round talent. The potential for five-tools are there. Super interesting kid.

There are guys on the West Coast that need more looks:

-@ProspectsLive Ranks-

No. 7 SS Marcelo Mayer

No. 37 LHP Gage Jump

No. 45 RHP Thatcher Hurd

No. 47 OF Malakhi Knight

No. 50 OF Tyree Reed

No. 69 IF Cody Schrier

No. 70 RHP Max Debiec

No. 96 IF Max Muncy

No. 114 OF Roc Riggio

Louisville OF Levi Usher is one of the best outfielders in the 2021 class. The tools are loud. There's power there, and the hit and run tools both grade out very well. He's a centerfielder at the next level.

Culling all these top names into a team's draft picks takes incredible amounts of analysis. When drafting, hire well, and you'll prosper.
