Taijuan Walker gave up a run, on a homer by Mike Zunino, in pitching the top of the sixth for the NL All-Stars.

Walker and Zunino were battery-mates on the Double-A Jackson Generals in 2012 (and then on the Mariners in the ensuing years).

The Cubs overcome making five errors in the top of the
third inning and beat the Mets, 4-2. The Chicago miscues, that include
shortstop Andre Rodgers and catcher Dick Bertell each committing two and
first baseman Ernie Banks contributing to the total by dropping a pop fly,
account for all of New York's scoring in the Wrigley Field contest. |
1969 |
At Wrigley Field, Bill Hands

1969: At Wrigley Field, the Chicago Cubs top the New York Mets, 1 - 0, to
give Bill Hands (11-7) the win over Tom Seaver (14-4). Billy Williams singles home the winner, boosting the Cubs lead to 5 1/2

Just saw Szapucki out for season with ulnar realignment surgery. So the oft-injured one started his MILB career in 2015 and has totaled 187 innings. How nuts is that?
Who is next on the call up chart for Mets minors starters now? Kumar Rocker?
Proud of Taijuan Walker - who actually pitches, and pitches well.
JD Davis is very ready - call him up and put his live bat at 3rd base. Villar back to part time.
Mets need JD's bat. I think they will try to find at bats for Villar as well. Maybe at the expense of McNeil?
- What does “transferred to complex” mean for Quinn Brodey?
- McNeil has been the Mets hottest hitter in July. Davis needs to hit cleanup and get Alonso down to #6 where he belongs.
- Why is Cespedes not playing somewhere? I mean, Lowrie found a home…
Good questions Gus - I think Brody was transferred to the complex to try and work with him on stuff to try and get him going. Otherwise, he would have just been released.
Robert Stock impressed in his start in the DH last week, and again at 'Cuse this week. I' d say he's next, but Carrasco will hopefully get here before we need to bring anyone up.
Bill, I saw Stock pitch up close in Syracuse. Consistently hit 97 on the radar but lost control one inning. Otherwise, he looked good indeed.
Is Stock's FB too straight? Can he get MLB hitters out with that stuff?
One thing I do know - unlike Tom Szapucki, who turned pro 7 years ago and has 187 total innings, at least Stock pitches. Szapucki is the pitcher in name only. Of course, he could go to Seattle next year and win 15 games.
