One of my under the radar stars, Jose Peroza, is 3 for 13 since his promo to Brooklyn, but add in 5 walks vs. 1 K. A .405 OBP on the year, just turned 21 in June,
Alvarez jacked a long HR - in Brooklyn! And a triple? I think he outdone be a Met this time next year.
Not outdone…OUGHT to be a Met this time next year.
Sitting up close in Brooklyn last night - I thought Alvarez did a very good job framing pitches. He allowed two stolen bases. He also had trouble with balls in the dirt - 3 wild pitches that a good defensive catcher Nick Meyer would have blocked - 2 of these came with runners on 3rd which allowed them to score. His bat is ready - still needs to work on his catching game.
I spoke to the Brooklyn Manager about his catching - he stated that Francisco had made improvements. Not sure his catching will be ready for MLB by next year.
John, his bat is a ways off right now, but he could close that gap quickly. His catching? That comes down to hard work. it is easier to accelerate than hitting. Or should be.
So, John, you saw the Mauricio triple - did the wind keep that in? Coming off his bat, it looked like a sure HR.
Tom - it sure looked like the wind kept the ball in the stadium.
I spoke to the Manager about the trouble hitting in that ball park. Hope to post the interview soon.
