Press Release: St. Lucie Mets Complete Sweep of Palm Beach Cardinals with 2-1 Win

 


Fryman goes 3 for 4, hits go-ahead double in 6th 

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (August 8, 2021) – The St. Lucie Mets completed a three-game sweep of the Palm Beach Cardinals with a 2-1 win on Sunday afternoon at Clover Park (Box Score). 

Mets starter Jose Chacin (3-0) pitched 6.0 quality innings. He held the Cardinals to four hits and one solo home run by Mike Antico. Chacin has started three games for St. Lucie. He has pitched a quality start in all three and won all three. 

Three Mets relievers – Sammy Tavarez, Liam McCall and Luis Montas – each pitched a scoreless inning to close out the game. 

Tavarez struck out Antico to strand the tying run a third base in the seventh. McCall worked a perfect eighth with a strikeout. Montas pitched around a two-out single in the ninth to earn his fourth save. Montas lowered his season ERA to 0.68. 

David Thompson, on MiLB rehab assignment from Syracuse, started at third base and hit a solo home run against John Beller in the bottom of the first to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. 

Antico tied the game with his solo homer in the third. 

Matt O'Neill and Branden Fryman hit back-to-back doubles off Luis Ortiz in the sixth inning. Fryman's hit plated O'Neill to give the Mets a 2-1 lead. 

Fryman went 3 for 4 from the ninth spot in the order for the second time in three games.

O'Neill added two walks to go along with his double. 

Jose Martinez (left meniscus) made a MLB rehab start. He played three innings in right field and went 0 for 2 with a strikeout. 

The Mets (44-37), who are on a four-game winning streak, are off on Monday. They begin a 12-game, 13-day road trip to Dunedin and Tampa on Tuesday. First pitch against the Dunedin Blue Jays on Tuesday is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
