JONNY FARMELO OF / WESTFIELD, VA / 2023

Rankings  STATERANK: 2 / POS: 1 OVERALLRANK: 16 / POS: 3

Heading into the summer, Farmelo was a top 200 prospect in the class thanks to a sweet left-handed stroke and elite athleticism. After stout showings on multiple national stages including at the PBR Cup to begin the fall, the Virginia recruit skyrockets into the top 20 (#17), and might ultimately be too low. While not quite there (yet), there is some Max Clark esq feel to his all around game. A premium runner who routinely glides to 4.1-times in game, Farmelo is bigger than the aforementioned Clark at 6-foot-3, 215-pounds with lean, defined strength. His presence in the box is calm and collected with crisp movements and the ability to slow things down while accelerating through impact and flashing considerable power potential. Still more, his ability to cover the plate in driving the ball to the opposite field shines well on the hit-tool, and given the recent helium dark horses that the mid-Atlantic has produced (Merrill, Triantos), the northern Virginia product is a good bet to be the next in line.

Farmelo has a short, explosive path to the ball with big exit velocities and loud, gap power. He's handed velocity and spin at showcases. In the outfield, he's shown an above average arm with average speed. Farmelo is a big, strong kid who likely projects best into a corner outfield spot. The body is already fairly maxed out, so continuing to perform at a high level will be important as Farmelo's "next frontier" in development isn't clear.

This might be my favorite swing of the week so far.

Jonny Farmelo is firmly among the Top 5 OF in the class, in my opinion

2023 OF Jonny Farmelo finds an easy barrel for an oppo RBI. Premier tools that have stood out the entire summer and now into fall. UVA commit. https://t.co/4xHfjRo3IM

Love the great athletes. They can often play multiple positions, and with the right coaching, they can tune their mechanics to top performance. Keep this guy on the radar.
