#26 2B/SS Matt Shaw Maryland

Shaw does a little bit of everything well. He's a big, strong, thick middle-infielder who could certainly stick at shortstop, though some believe he could end up at second base or third base because of his shorter strides, inconsistent hands and muscular frame.

Featuring above average power and a potential solid average hit tool, Shaw has impact in his bat and a mature approach. An average runner, maybe a tick more, he's got the potential to net double digit homers and stolen bases at his peak whilst developing into a Kike Hernandez type pro.

Matt Shaw is a 5-foot-11, 185-pound shortstop with a well-balanced toolset. The right-handed hitter has simple mechanics and a short swing that allows him to drive the ball into the gaps.

He hits for average and power and shows solid plate discipline. Besides his ability at the plate, Shaw possesses plenty of speed and projects to steal double-digit bases in pro ball.

13. Matt Shaw, SS, Maryland

Shaw slammed 22 homers during the spring and then topped the Cape Cod League in hitting (.360), on-base percentage (.432), slugging (.574), OPS (1.006) and extra-base hits (17) en route to the summer circuit's MVP award. Scouts love his power and non-stop motor, but he lacks quickness and range at shortstop and likely will wind up at second or third base in pro ball.

25. Matt Shaw Shortstop, Maryland

Shaw does a little bit of everything well. He's a big, strong, thick middle-infielder who could certainly stick at shortstop, though some believe he could end up at second base or third base because of his shorter strides and muscular frame. Shaw was a force in the Big 10 as a true freshman and figures to anchor the middle of the Maryland lineup for the next two years. He's got the potential to net double digit homers and stolen bases at his collegiate peak whilst developing into a Kike Hernandez type pro.

Mack,
If the Mets receive any compensatory picks that are to be after the 4th round, is it in their best interest to use those picks on high end prospects that fall to the later rounds due to high cost signing concerns or commitments to college? Worked well with Allen and T J Ginn.I want to see us use the draft and international signings effectively to build our minors.

If you want an effective draft going forward, you have to stop going over the luxury tax

QO picks after the 4th round are meh.

We are in the wrong division. Can we move to the AL Central. We’d not have to go over the cap, nor have draft placement slippage. Why? The teams there are perennially weak. The Braves, Nats and Phillies over the past 30 years? Every year, one or more have been highly potent challengers. You need fight fire with fire, or be the Marlins.
