Syracuse-Bound Duo?
Anthony DiComo, a very talented and plugged in writer whose articles populate the Mets' official website, wrote just before the kick off of spring training that he sees the 26 man opening day roster shaking out this way:
Catchers (2): Omar Narváez, Tomás Nido
- until Álvarez is ready to stick in the Majors for good.
First basemen (1): Pete Alonso
Second basemen (1): Jeff McNeil
Shortstop (2): Francisco Lindor, Luis Guillorme
Third baseman (1): Eduardo Escobar
-who will try to hold off second-ranked Mets prospect Brett Baty, saying "Both have reasonable claims to the job."
Outfielders (4): Mark Canha, Brandon Nimmo, Starling Marte, Tommy Pham
Designated hitters (2): Daniel Vogelbach, Darin Ruf
Starting pitchers (5): Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Kodai Senga, José Quintana, Carlos Carrasco
- The most prominent challengers will be David Peterson and Tylor Megill
Relief pitchers (8): Edwin Díaz, Adam Ottavino, David Robertson, Brooks Raley, Drew Smith, Stephen Nogosek, Tommy Hunter, Zach Greene
- "They will compete against a host of others, including Jeff Brigham, John Curtiss, Stephen Ridings, Bryce Montes de Oca, Sam Coonrod and long men Elieser Hernandez and Joey Lucchesi. Nearly all will end up playing significant roles for the Mets over the course of the summer...."

Why no mention of Mighty Mashing Mark Vientos?
Which that Anthony left off his 26 man list would make the opening day roster if they played for, say, Pittsburgh?

I wish Vogey shed 50 lbs but 20-25 will do and the article about fans wearing Steve Cohen T shirts reminded me that I must have lost my Jeff Wilpon T shirt dam!
I think the Mets will play all the kids in Syracuse until the mid-season trading period.
Mack, or until someone like Ruf falters. Last year, the guillotine came down on Cano rapidly. Ruf’s leash will be ultra short.
Injuries,lots of them,it’s an old team. The kids might be up sooner than you think and play more innings then we ever thought.
I do not hope for injuries to get the kids in, but even without Jake, injuries will surely show up, as will the kids.
26 players is a very tight number when you have the depth of this NYM team. The list is hard to argue with, as the Mets really need to evaluate what they will get from Escobar, Carrasco, and Ruf during the first half of the season. You can't do that by playing "the kids". I do agree with the comments above that injuries will determine the call-up date more than anything.
It won't last all season because of callups, but if I lived near Syracuse I would be ecstatic about their team.
A lineup including Alvarez, Baty, Vientos and Mauricio, plus a rotation headed by Peterson, Megill, Lucchesi and Butto, and MDO closing games, should absolutely DOMINATE.
They could probably be competitive in a league with the bottom 7 ML teams.
