Tom Brennan - Mark Vientos Is On The Up Escalator

IT SURELY SEEMS MARK VIENTOS IS STARTING TO SOAR

Hitting in the majors is hard enough for anyone, but when you are a rookie and you play sporadically, it is even tougher.

Mark Vientos is playing more of late, and the consistent playing time is leading to ascension.

From a NY Post article by fine writer Mark Sanchez, the following verbiage summarizes it well:

“Since the Mets fell out of the playoff race and sold at the deadline, he (Vientos) has received consistent playing time that he is beginning to take advantage of.

“I’ve improved a lot,” said Vientos, who, after his three-hit day, is hitting an even .300 (15-for-50) with three home runs and six RBIs in his past 14 games. “I’m playing consistently at the highest level, and I’m learning from the best of the best around me every single day.

“I feel like I’ve improved drastically over the course of the season and once I’ve been here.”

He is beginning to show his bat could be adapting to big-league pitching, too.

None of his hits Sunday were soft, turning exit velocities of 104.1 mph, 105.2 mph and 100.4 mph into three singles.

Vientos entered play with an average exit velocity of 93.3 mph, which was 11th best among hitters with at least 100 plate appearances.

The Vientos Escalator, now?

It’s only going up. And…Quickly. Hold onto your handrails.

BINGHAMTON KICKS BUTT IN GAME 1:

9-2 victory. Juggernaut. Nice. Jett hit a 3 run shot. Scott and Moreno did really well, too.

And Schwartz, Jordan and Jackson combined for 7 hits and 4 RBIs. Nice.

Re: Vientos

It's good to see the confidence level increase here

No one has ever questioned his bat

Tom

How is his glove doing?

The emergence of Ronny Mauricio as a third baseman has added a new level of future success on this team

There will be plenty of talented players in 2026 to play second base

Vientos may find his future as a Met only as a DH and Baty may be odd man out

Vientos’ glove? He’d be a fine first baseman. He needs to up his defensive game. Once he is past rookie status (300-400 at bats) he needs to be good to go in every respect. Or he will marginalize himself.

Ronny has impressed. Baty has not.

I expect Jett William to be on a fast track next season and be ready to start at second in 2024

Not CF

That's reserved for Cody Belenger

Cody? OK

Vientos doesn’t have a position,if he can hit he has to be a DH.

Kick butt? Can we keep the harsh dialogue down?
