There weren't many pluses for the Mets yesterday, but there were a few. N
Nate Lavender's 1-2-3, all-Ks inning was one. Of course it's a microscopically small sample, but hopefully a sign that he can be a good pen addition on OD.
Brett Baty looked good in the field, including a nice pickup and throw to the plate with a runner headinghome. The runner scored when the ball came out of Nido's glove, but that doesn't negate Baty's part.
I liked Pete's 2 AB, though they were hitless. Instead of trying to pull, he hit a hard GB back to the mound and a Line Drive to right. I hope his approach continues into the season.
This was my first chance to see the highly-touted but so far mediocre Alax Ramirez. He has the look of a 5-tool player, slim but muscular. He had 2 hits, and hopefully will have the kind of year he's been projected to have since he's been part of the Mets' farm.
Otherwise, there were mostly negatives, led by an awful IP by Josh Walker.
Eyes today will be on Jose Butto, who will compete with Megill for the cant rotation spot. I hope we get a look at Jett, our #1 prospect, but I don't know if he'll play in this game.
Bill, I read in the NY Post today a very nice piece on Lavender, but he maximizes 92 MPH with toughness, deceptive ESD, and shrewdness. Hopefully, that will translate.
I was a little far far from the Tv when lavender was pitching and didn’t see his miles per hour readings. Bill, did you see what was he clocking in at? To my eye, he looked tough.
It was good to see Ramirez pick up a couple of hits. Hopefully a sign of good things to come. Cortez and singer going for for four with a homer was good for them but it’s really early and I’ll need to see a lot more from either of them before I start getting back on either bandwagon.
Hartwig looked decent too. Megill I missed but he probably was fine. The three guys who gave up nine runs I don’t expect a lot out of, but I did not see those innings. Lastly, I was sad to see that even though Beatty got a hit, he made an error too.

No, I didn't notice the speed #s, but in today's Newsday Tim Healey said he threw harder than usual
His FB averaged 91.3, with 92.7 the hardest.

Anytime you can use a word like shrewdness when referring to one of our players it's a good day. My favorite Sunday story was back in the 80's when they ran the promotion Carvel Strawberry Sundaes for Darryl because one it was one of my favorites and two I also owned a Carvel. I loved Nate's inning pitched and the throw in from Gilbert was impressive and although Acuna looked good in the field but at the plate he doesn't impress me so far but I know very small sample size. Ramirez certainly looks like a ball player but then again so did the immortal Ryan Thompson 30 years ago but unfortunately it was not to be so here's hoping Alex fares better going forward.
Baty actually did not have an error. Perfect throw to home missed by Nido.

It looked like the ball popped out of Nido's glove as he made the tag. Was that the play called an E on Baty?
If it was, then the Official Scorer should get the E.
