Adrian Gonzalez, Mejia to B-Mets, K-Rod, Carton & Boomer... and Straw on 86 Mets vs 09 Yanks

Adrian Gonzalez:

Several days ago Mike Silva of the NY Baseball Digest posted an article titled “Could The Mets Get Adrian Gonzalez?” Silva proposed last spring that the Mets offer Jenrry Mejia, Jon Niese, Brad Holt, Fernando Martinez, and Daniel Murphy, now he suggests adding Ike Davis into the mix with a combination that still includes Mejia and F-Mart. He says, “A big year from F-Mart and he all of a sudden becomes the kind of piece you can center in a blockbuster package”. He thinks that there could be an opportunity to make a trade prior to the July trade deadline, if the Mets are in serious contention. - link

Mejia to B-Mets:

Mets general manager said prospect right-hander Jenrry Mejia will open the 2010 season as a starter with Double-A Binghamton. That's been the plan all along and this spring training sneak preview will likely do little to change that. Mejia tossed 2 1/3 perfect innings against the Marlins on Friday, striking out four, raising the possibility that he could open the season in the back of the big league bullpen. It's an intriguing idea, but the Mets will continue to develop the 20-year-old as a starting pitcher in the minor leagues. Mejia was recently ranked as the organization's No. 1 prospect by Baseball America. - link

K-Rod:

Francisco Rodriguez (pink eye) will throw a bullpen session on Tuesday. K-Rod was slowed for the early part of camp, but he has recovered to the point where doctors no longer consider him contagious. He could throw a live batting practice session as soon as Thursday and possibly appear in a game this weekend - link

Carton & Boomer:

First, I have questioned the Mets support of Carton. Last year I wrote how the Mets brand does not need a self centered, narcissistic individual who is using WFAN and the sports world to build his personal radio portfolio. The aggravating thing about Carton is he has the guts to do a good interview, unlike many in the industry today, but always ruins it with childish behavior you see at any local middle school.

As for Boomer, whom I have a great deal of respect, he is playing the “Robin Quivers role” as Doctor Mark states, by sitting back and letting this clown run rampant with his wild thoughts. - link

Straw on 86 Mets vs. 09 Yanks:

"'Doc would've destroyed them. We would've beaten them. They're a great team, but we wouldn't have been intimidated. We could hit, we could pitch and we could definitely fight.'

"Strawberry meant no disrespect toward the Bombers, to whom he owes the second half of his career. And to be technical about it, Darryl knows the '86 Gooden wasn't nearly as overpowering as the '85 edition, which skews his prediction. But it's all part of a harmless journey into the past. All you have to do is ask him." - link
