The Murray State athletic department endured a tragic loss Saturday evening when freshman baseball player Thomas McGurk was killed in a car accident in Murray.
“We are saddened by this tragedy and the loss of one of our student-athletes,” said Director of Athletics Allen Ward. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.”
“We are all shocked and very saddened by Thomas’ loss,” said head baseball coach Rob McDonald. “He hadn’t been with us for very long, but had made an impact with our Breds family. I know his father talked about how much he loved it here. We will miss Thomas.”
McGurk (Medina, Ohio) was a left-handed pitcher that came to Murray State from Medina High School. As a senior, he posted a 3.20 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 32 innings. He is survived by his parents, Scott and Brenda, and brother, David.
