The Peoria Journal-Star reports: A junior on the Bradley baseball team junior died at a Peoria hospital early Monday.
Phil Kaiser, 21, of Berwyn was pronounced dead at 2:51 a.m. in the emergency room at Methodist Medical Center. He had been found unresponsive in his girlfriend's apartment. An autopsy was scheduled for later Monday, according to the county coroner. - chicagobreakingsports.

While Koosman may have won 200 games during his 19-year career, he also lost 200, giving him a lifetime winning percentage of just .515. However, the postseason was quite different.
In 1969, Koosman was the number two starter for the Mets behind their ace and eventual Hall-of-Famer, Tom Seaver. The Mets surprisingly won the NL East title that year, coming from 9 ½ games back in mid-August to pass the Chicago Cubs. Then, in the first ever National League Championship Series, they defeated the Atlanta Braves to get to their first-ever World Series. -

In the '69 World Series, the Cubs, er, I mean, the Mets (Freudian slip) were playing the Baltimore Orioles. In game four of the World Series, Robinson hit a sinking line drive to right that Swoboda dove and caught. While Frank Robinson tagged and scored, Boog Powell was stranded and the Mets went on to win 2-1 in 10 innings.

Yet another Scott Boras client (in case you don’t know, or haven’t caught on by now, Boras gets the $$$), Beltre is an interesting Free Agent. There’s no question he was excellent with Boston this season. His .321 Avg. was fourth in the American League and he drove in over 100 runs for a potent Boston offense. But this is not the first time we have seen this from Beltre in a contract year. After posting a staggering 1.017 OPS for the Dodgers in 2004, he signed a massive contract with the Mariners only to see his OPS drop over .300 points. There’s no promising he’ll have another strong year at the plate. Regardless, he remains a gold-glove defender and will continue to make great money.
