The Mack Draft Report – Will Lamb, Andrew Susac, Jake Cave, Noe Ramirez, and Tyler Greene

It’s still very early in the draft process, but there are certain players that are moving up and down the mock draft boards, primarily due to their performance in tournaments they played in recently.



A decent performance in tournaments like the Cape Cod League can do wonders for your rep. In many cases, the talent level of the team you are playing against is much higher than the talent on your school’s schedule.



Moreover, a hot-shot high school player in a little town can look pretty bad when they go up against the big boys in their state.



Some movement this month:



LHP Will Lamb – stock up – the funny thing about Lamb is he’s going up the mock draft charts because of his hitting rather than his pitching. The two-way Clemson star comes in as the 10th ranked left-handed pitcher, after mocking as the 38th pick in PG Tracker’s recent draft



C Andrew Susac - stock up – Susac has only been ranked in three drafts this mock season; however, they were in three of the last four released. Susac shined in the Cape Cod League in July, being named the top defensive catcher in gaggle of very talented backstops. He also batted .290/.393/.500 for Falmouth in the same league.



OF Jake Cave – stock up – Cave is a 6-1 control pitcher whose fastball only hits 90, but when he plays centerfield, he hits like he’s seven feet tall. Baseball America has said he’s a definite two way threat, while others say he has 5-tool potential. His arm is major league ready and has great foot and bat speed. Cave has been named in three of the last four mock drafts, which are the first three he made this year.



RHP Noe Ramirez – stock down – Ramirez came out of the box in the mock draft season fast and was an early late first rounder in whatever came out just after the 2010 draft. Since then, he has only been ranked in one of the last five drafts and that one (Draft Site) was at 104th. In July, PRN Scouting wrote that he lacked” high-end velocity”, though no one questions his control. The drop in ranking is perplexing.



SS Tyler Greene – stock down – Green was not even ranked on four of the last five mock drafts that have come down. His highest projection, 24th, was from a draft taken in June (Andy Seiler). Greene hasn’t done anything bad this summer, but it also looks like he hasn’t done anything at all. All this has translated in him now being projected as a third rounder, instead of one of the first 33 names picked.
