The Nationals signed GM Mike Rizzo to a five-year extension and promoted him to executive vice president of baseball operations and GM, according to the team. Rizzo, who turns 50 later this year, has been Washington's GM since August 2009 and has acted as GM since March of last year. - MLBTR  

Sandy Alomar:


Former mets catcher and coach Sandy Alomar Jr. has interviewed for the manger’s job in Toronto, a person familiar with the situation tells The Associated Press.


Alomar, now a coach with the Indians, met Monday in Toronto with Blue Jays officials, according to the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the interview had not been made public by the teams. - NYP

 Ike Davis:


10-19-10 from: - BA : - 1B Ike Davis • Mets - With 19 home runs, Davis trailed only David Wright for the Mets' team lead. That same total a year ago would have led New York (by seven!) in its inaugural year in spacious Citi Field. If he reins in the strikeouts, Davis could be a steady 25-30 homer threat with plenty of patience (72 walks, .351 on-base percentage) and ample defensive contributions.

Dead Weight:


But the Mets have little choice in the matter. The team's bold step of placing him on the disqualified list and converting his contract to a non-guaranteed deal in the wake of Rodriguez's alleged assault of his girlfriend's father in the Mets' family room at Citi Field, was destined to be challenged and, in all likelihood, overturned.


So the Mets are left with little recourse but to mend fences and move on, trying not to saddle the new GM with a roster full of unfixable problems. While cutting Perez might make sense and certainly would win popularity points, why not let him linger on the roster over the winter with the hope – long shot I know – something clicks in winter ball? - bleacherreport.   

Matt Harvey:


10-18-10 from: - MMLB  - Harvey very well may be; the raw stuff is fine, the breaking ball was better late in spring and the Mets were sold even earlier than that on the right-hander. It’s about consistency and command for Harvey. At worst he’s a very good 8th-inning reliever or closer, but holding his velocity late was not a big problem so he’s got starting pitcher written all over him. One comp I have heard is Jeremy Bonderman, pre-injury, but personally I think that is lite for Harvey. I’d say Matt Cain as an absolute ceiling comp.
