I have the 6-1, 240 power hitter as the 15th top first baseman in the 2011 draft, which translates to around a 7th or 8th round pick. Looks more like an offensive lineman. Excellent swing, above average wood bat speed, needs to do 1000 sit-ups a day for a year. Body comparison to Babe Ruth. Even scarier is he walks and runs like Ruth.

Toss It Around -draft-13.html named RHP Hudson Boyd as the 13th top prospect in the nation. We’ve had him as one of the top pitchers also, but not this high. Currently, we rank him as the 18th top RHP, which translates as a late 1st round supplement pick or an early to mid-round second. TIA is easiest the highest ranking so far for Boyd. Some others are: PG Tracker: 79th… Draft Site: 55th… MLS Bonus Baby: 40th… has a low-90’d fastball with sick sink… add to that an 11-5 slider that sits 79-81. 80-83 change-up…

PW – his hosting The Fall Wood Bat Classic this weekend at the Lake Myrtle Complex, in Auburndale, Florida. The games will begin on Friday, October 29th, at 5:30pm. Overall, there will be 27 teams, consisting of nine pools of three teams. Each team will play each member of their pool once, giving those 2 games and a consolation game for those that don't advance. The WWBA wrapped up yesterday with the naming of SS Francisco Lindor and RHP Jose Fernandez as the top players of the tourney. Lindor went 8-19, 2-2B, 2-HR and Fernandez had stats of 10.0-IP, 0.00, 0-R, 3-H, 12-K, 0-BB. His plus plus slider, coupled with a fast ball that hit 97, will definitely raise his draft value come June.
Attention parents: I can’t stress enough the value of these winter tournaments, especially for kids from smaller towns that simply don’t get the national press. A one week period like Lindor or Fernandez had can be the difference in being drafted, no less being offered bonus money.
We had a local kid get drafted in the middle rounds a few years ago and he decided not to sign until after he played Cape Cod ball. He aced his first two outings there, called his agent, and was signed by the MLB team for a $500K signing bonus. Trust me; all that money came out of that tournament performance.

My good buddy, XMLBScout over at http://xmlbscout.angelfire.com added a new RHP to his watch list. He’s Max Povse, a 6-10 giant out of Green Hope High School, in Cary, North Carolina. Povse tounched 92 at the Impact 2011 Showcase, along with a 77-78 curve and a 72 change. “X” says he’s a work in progress, which can’t be making his basketball coach too happy. He throws from a ¾ arm slot and, frankly, barely hits the barn at this point of his development, but don’t forget the name.
