The St. Lucie Mets bounced back to defeat the visiting Jupiter Hammerheads 7-3 Saturday night at Digital Domain Park. The 7-3 win puts the Mets at 32-30 on the season and are now one game ahead of the Ft. Myers Miracle for first place in the FSL South Division. There are eight games remaining in the first half of the season.
The Mets jumped out in front early in the game. Stefan Welch scored on an RBI single by Francisco Pena to kick things off for the Mets in the second inning. St. Lucie tacked on two more runs in the third inning on RBI single off the bats of Wilmer Flores and Cesar Puello to give the Mets a 3-0 advantage. Jupiter was able to even things up in the fifth inning score once in the fourth and two more times in the fifth thanks to three St. Lucie errors. Puello would break the tie in the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly that gave St. Lucie a 4-3 lead. That would be all the runs they would need en route to victory. A three-run eighth inning put the game out of reach securing the Mets 7-3 win.
Mets starter Jack Egbert was solid through five innings. Egbert allowed three runs, all unearned on six hits while striking out four batters. Mike Powers got the win tossing two innings of relief allowing only two base runners and Nick Carr closed the game out striking out three over the final two innings of the game notching his fifth save of the season.
The Mets pounded out twelve hits on the night, every St. Lucie starter reached base in the win. Jefry Marte had three hits on the night. Puello drove in a pair and Matt den Dekker scored twice while Juan Lagares and Flores both chipped in with a pair of hits.
